A minor bump. TP Insurers dealt with whole claim using their own approved repairer. These minor repairs took two weeks. I am told there are numerous different stages involved. Repairs cost £1200.00 . Nothings cheap these days!88D9F328-810F-4DD3-B691-041F3B759ED4.jpeg

That’s not a bad price I was quoted £375 from small ding specialist for a small scrape ( no dent) on the NSR wheel arch when I was tidying up the Subaru. So I bought some touch up plus Meguirs scratch remover and it virtually took it away from sight.

Looks very like a dent on our Mazda. We get these done for about £200 but just given up at the moment as we have three and not one admitted to by other party.

As trading in my previous Jeep, I went to Chipsaway for a scratch on rear door and 2 - 3 stone chips on bonnet. They did a good job at £625. Ouch.

They probably would not have dropped you that much on your trade in price.

I have several Supermarket Trolly scars, on the SF, At £250 a time that would be £750. For a 8 year old car, I will put up with a £10 scratch pen from Halfords

I now park away from the main stream at supermarkets. My last car had dings on most panels courtesy of a Tesco trolleys and their shoppers🤬. The VW is ding free, so far👏

You can buy insurance for repairs to dings and scratches. My daughter took it out for her new lease Corolla. I think it was about £225 for three years cover which allows 6 repairs a year in each of the tree years the policy runs.

Likewise and I sit in the car scowling as cars come alongside and dangle an arm outside just to push someone’s out of control door back. Needless to say my wife is the shopper in chief.

You are correct. Removing stone chips from bonnet was a waste of time and cost the additional £300. However at that point I trading in the Jeep was not for certain.

Any catches?

My daughter bought her policy from Motoreasy based on her sons experience of having a policy for 3 years on a lease. Astra. In that time it had acquired some body scratches and the cost for the lease company to rectify was a lot more expensive than the policy cost. So he felt that it was good value notwithstanding any exclusions, but as ever it’s horses for courses and what meets a particular persons needs.

I think it is about £350 extra so money well spent.

Almost too good to be true.

Just read this . https://www.whatcar.com/advice/buyi...d-dent-insurance-on-a-new-car-worth-it/n18519

My concern is the requirement to inform my main car Insurer of every ding claim.( correctly complying with T&Cs.)
Just spoken to my grandson and he did not notify his cars insurer when he had scratches removed. But he can’t recall if it was a requirement of the cosmetic damage policy. Seems a bit of an unreasonable condition as you don’t notify them when Chips Away work on the car. Although I dare say the main insurance conditions probably do require you too. Gives them an excuse to increase your next years premium. ☹️

Not much point then in buying such a policy as your main insurer will undoubtedly use any claims on that cosmetic damage policy to increase your premium next time around.

This may be of interest in the event that anyone is thinking of a Cosmetic Damage policy.
My daughter has spoken to her insurer who do not require to be informed of cosmetic repairs within the specification of the Motoreasy policy. She has recorded details of the discussion. I just wonder how many report using Chips Away when they spruce up their car for sale? Is it getting to the stage where my daughter should have informed her insurer that in February this year Dad spent some turgid hours respraying the RNS quarter of her Focus prior to sale? That work was well outside the Motoreasypolicy in no small measure. It came up pretty darned good too, even the surveyor said so :):)

The problem with Forums is a lot of people take as Gospel what is said. I believe most on here are very sensible. So whilst some of our statements appear OTT, it doesn’t mean we individually subscribe to them. Clive’s daughter has taken the intelligent step of checking. I too bashed my car last year and said nothing 😇😇

As our multi car policy comes up for renewal I had to ring our insurer this morning to advise some minor amendments. Whilst on the phone I specifically asked whether cosmetic repairs done under a Cosmetic Damage policy were required to be notified. The answer was "No" it is not required. Our insurer is LV.

Might consider now whether to take out such policy given the cost of one off cosmetic repairs.

I think you need to take out the policy within 3 months from date of purchase so you should be okay. However in my case if I took it out the £350 premium in conjunction with a Gap insurance policy would only cover me for the 2 years. After that I am not sure if only that can be renewed. Not sure if you can buy it as a stand alone policy?

Just checked an Ala Insurance offer it has a stand alone and for 3 years cost £445 is for the Jeep. The previous Jeep it was in year 4 when it needed cosmetic damage repaired.

I have taken out a three year Motoreasy Cosmetic Damage policy at £250 and up to six claims a year to a total if 18 claims. Just had to submit photos to show current condition of the car. It hasn’t even picked up a single stone chip. So no physical check required.
