They probably would not have dropped you that much on your trade in price. As trading in my previous Jeep, I went to Chipsaway for a scratch on rear door and 2 - 3 stone chips on bonnet. They did a good job at £625. Ouch.
Any catches? You can buy insurance for repairs to dings and scratches. My daughter took it out for her new lease Corolla. I think it was about £225 for three years cover which allows 6 repairs a year in each of the tree years the policy runs.
Likewise and I sit in the car scowling as cars come alongside and dangle an arm outside just to push someone’s out of control door back. Needless to say my wife is the shopper in chief.I now park away from the main stream at supermarkets. My last car had dings on most panels courtesy of a Tesco trolleys and their shoppers🤬. The VW is ding free, so far👏
Don’t know as her car is ding free at present. There are stipulations in her policy wrt descriptors of what size and shape etc are covered. From memory a scratch of 30 cms is one descriptor. I will ask her where she bought the policy.Any catches?
I wish i done that with my Tiguan someone caught it with a trolley on near side wing but manage to touch it up .I now park away from the main stream at supermarkets. My last car had dings on most panels courtesy of a Tesco trolleys and their shoppers🤬. The VW is ding free, so far👏
You are correct. Removing stone chips from bonnet was a waste of time and cost the additional £300. However at that point I trading in the Jeep was not for certain. They probably would not have dropped you that much on your trade in price.
Any catches?
I think it is about £350 extra so money well spent. My daughter bought her policy from Motoreasy based on her sons experience of having a policy for 3 years on a lease. Astra. In that time it had acquired some body scratches and the cost for the lease company to rectify was a lot more expensive than the policy cost. So he felt that it was good value notwithstanding any exclusions, but as ever it’s horses for courses and what meets a particular persons needs.
Just spoken to my grandson and he did not notify his cars insurer when he had scratches removed. But he can’t recall if it was a requirement of the cosmetic damage policy. Seems a bit of an unreasonable condition as you don’t notify them when Chips Away work on the car. Although I dare say the main insurance conditions probably do require you too. Gives them an excuse to increase your next years premium. ☹️Almost too good to be true.
Just read this . https://www.whatcar.com/advice/buyi...d-dent-insurance-on-a-new-car-worth-it/n18519
My concern is the requirement to inform my main car Insurer of every ding claim.( correctly complying with T&Cs.)
Not much point then in buying such a policy as your main insurer will undoubtedly use any claims on that cosmetic damage policy to increase your premium next time around.Yes they do require full disclosure.

I think you need to take out the policy within 3 months from date of purchase so you should be okay. However in my case if I took it out the £350 premium in conjunction with a Gap insurance policy would only cover me for the 2 years. After that I am not sure if only that can be renewed. Not sure if you can buy it as a stand alone policy? As our multi car policy comes up for renewal I had to ring our insurer this morning to advise some minor amendments. Whilst on the phone I specifically asked whether cosmetic repairs done under a Cosmetic Damage policy were required to be notified. The answer was "No" it is not required. Our insurer is LV.
Might consider now whether to take out such policy given the cost of one off cosmetic repairs.
