Breathalysers - NOT!

I hope Alcosense are paying us a LOT for their regular full-page advert, desperately trying to offload their breathalysers (July, p.133).
While it's strictly true that French law requires drivers to carry one, the French government later decided not to impose any penalty at all for not doing so - effectively repealing the law in all but name!
Wonderful bit of Gallic compromise.

Should we still carry them then Tony?
We bought some a while ago, now out of date, but still in the van. Did not bother last year to renew them. Hope to go over in a week or so ( if Fuel problem sorted) Do they still sell them on the ferry?

Not been over yet this year Paul, but last year they were still selling them on board - long after the end of any penalties.

Thanks Tony Halfords are selling them.
Still hoping for the fuel and weather situation , to get sorted , as we hope to get over in the next week or so. Due to circumstances we can not get to Spain at the moment, so hope to get a couple of weeks in France. Fortunately we can leave until the last minute , as ferry only 10 mins away, so book and go next day for us.

Buy one if you want one but don't buy because you need to i.e no point. You would need to stop a load of French cars to find one as nobody has them. We had over 20 weeks over in France over the last 2 years and it is not a item on any Frenchman's agenda .Vive la France LOL. B)

Lived in France when they were introduced. What is the point of a law that has no penalty? Exactly. All French people know it was a shameless fiddle by Sarkozy and the only people profiting are Halfords and the Ferry companies. In France they can't even give them away. BUT ! If you are headed for France DO TAKE NOTE that the Gendarmes are out to get UK drivers for speeding anywhere and everywhere and also for not stopping for five seconds at Stop lines. They will take you to a cash machine to pay the on-the-spot fine and if you can't pay they will seize your vehicle.

There never were any penalties for the breathalyser issue, nor was it made clear when you should use the aforementioned articles or what happened if, having breathed into one, you had an excuse for driving and were later found to be over the limit.

They are bound to be "after" us Brits! We've upset "The Apple Cart" by daring to leave the corrupt society that the EU has become.
