I use the internet at my place of work but now wish to have broadband at home, Are there any suggestions out there about the best service and value for money? I tend to use it mainly for caravanning based websites.

Hi Tony

We are on BT broadband and as yet (touch wood) have not had a problem with them, been with them for 9 months.

My mate is on Wanadoo Broadband and in her area she has had loads of problems.

You can check online what the broadband is like in your area - just type in your postcode.

Hope that helps in your choice.

Lolly x

BT does it for us but avoid BT Yahoo as it is pricy and you get all the yahoo junk email despite filters etc.

Tiscali do some good deals and personally family and friends around the country on Wanadoo/Freeserve seem to get more than fair share of problems.

As usual I'm the one out in the cold ..in my experience Wanadoo (France telecom - I think ) has been excellent, certainly the UK call centre helped me out no end when my new computer wouldn't talk to the modem)

By the way regardless of which company; it's only as good as the BT line and the BT exchange. As I understand it BT monopoly of line is about to end over the next 18 months and the retail business (you and me to them ) and the lines will become very separate companies - akin to British gas and Transco

Ive got the BT Yahoo cris and I find it excellent for stopping spam, infact too good because it stops some that aren't spam so in that case I check my bulk folder every day which can be 100s of mails. Then it gets a pain in the ****. :O( The pop up killer is good too and also LaunchCast Music player where you can configure it to play the music you like if you are into that kind of thing. The rest of it is waste of time for me. I use Google as my homepage. Oops one more thing, Yahoo watches your surfing habits.

Hi Tony

Someone has already mentioned the quality of lines, most people have had no probelms with Bt broadband, but our telephone lines are 30 years old and despite living close to the exchange we had a lot of problems with connections.Sometimes it was slower than dial-up other times you couldn't even get connected, it was very annoying considering the extra cost per month. To Bt's credit the probelm was solved by an engineer swaping lines ,since then we had very few problems.
