Someone has burned the worktop in our caravan by putting a hot saucepan on the unprotected surface. It has not impregnated the surface just removed some of the colour. Has anyone got any tips regarding removal.

If the colour has been removed it might be difficult to restore it - and using abrasives or solvent cleaners may make it worse. Can you cover the mark with a heatproof worktop saver - which will then also prevent further incidents!

Val's idea is probably the best as it will be very difficult to rematch the finish. If you search the on-line cookshops you can find stainless steel trivets which would do the job well. These may have short feet which you could either remove or drill some holes in the worktop for them to fit into. This would stop the trivet sliding around and also enable it to be removed easily for cleaning. It should be in exactly the right place to receive a hot pan !

When you say it has burnt the worktop which has lost some colour, has it gone pale the same as a hot cup can leave a ring mark on tables ect. If this is the case there is a way of getting it out assuming this is a laminated worktop.
The heat from the pan has not actualy burnt the worktop, what has happened is the glue under the laminate has melted and come through the laminate which gives a cloudy look to the colour.
If this is the case you can remove it using Methylated Spirits. It takes some courage to try but it does work. Clear the area to be treated take a cloth and soak it in the meth's ring it out so it is damp and wipe it across the affected area, light one end and let it burn across the area, this will produce a very gentle flame for a very short time, when it burns out leave for a few seconds and you will see a small improvement. Repeat severaral times until mark goes and colour returns.
Prior to trying this make sure you have plenty of ventilation and have your fire extinguisher handy just in case.
If you are worried about doing this, do what i did and get an old bit of laminated wood put a hot cup of bioling water on it so it makes a ring and have a practice first.

I know i am going to get lots of comments about how mad i am but
I have done this several time now for friends and family and it has always worked.
Bite the bullet and have a go.

the metholated spirit method does work, my wife did the ironing on our light oak table(which is sealed with a hard varnish) we had an area 2ftx2ft which had gone almost white. wiping a meths dampened cloth over the damaged surface & setting light to it gradually removed the marks but it did take several attempts to remove it completly
you could also try placing a cotton cloth (OLD TEE SHIRT IS IDEAL) over the mark & ironing it with a steam iron
