We stayed there 2 summers back, weather wasn't brilliant and parts of site were very wet, even roadways and often had to paddle to toilet block. Large site, usual standard of amenities. However, what we were disappointed with, was insistence that a pup tent had to be on very stony hard standing, although awning annexes could go onto grass. we offered to move tent every couple of days, but no hard to be on stones which was difficult as son sleeps on camping mat. A neighbour kindly lent us an airbed. It is also a distance from places and so needed to drive every where, buses not frequent unless in Windermere. We prefer to be close to places of interest to walk or cycle. We did find a lovely bakery in Staverton on what almost appears to be a business site if I remember correctly.

We'd use caravan club site if we return or Kendal site.

We must have stayed at a different site (or maybe only in better weather).

It's a quite a large site, but split up into different areas. It never felt overcrowded, even in August. It's about six miles from both Windermere & Kendal, so there's plenty to do. You can walk to Staveley, where there are frequent trains to Windermere, Kendal and beyond. If you cycle you can even take your bike on the train. There's even a small bar on site. We were pitched in a corner with wondferful sunsets over the hills every night. Much, much nicer than the CC site in Kendal - which is about as far from the town centre as the Windermere/Staveley site is from Staveley

We have just returned from the lake district having stayed at Lakeside a Haven campsite, and having travelled for a few days around the lake district we popped into the Braithwaite site situted on a One -way system around the Lake Windermere. Is this the site in question? We drove around this site at around 7 pm vey quite and was full, all hardstanding. Very nicley situated within walking distance to the village of Windermere. I said to my husband I would book this site next time we visted due to it's location to village and surrounding area.

I assumed the original message referred to the C&CC site called "Windermere" (which is actually on the outskirts of the small village Staveley). The site in Bowness (Braithwaite Fold)is a Caravan Club site.
