The reason I ask is that I always precook and freeze meals that we can take away with us in the caravan. Soup, Curry, Stew, Fajitas (the meat part), Chilli etc, These can then be defrosted and put in the slow cooker or the oven. Leaving me time to enjoy our walks Etc instead of cooking.

I've made mince but had a thought of making it into Sheppard's pie (So I don't need to do potatoes on site)

So eventually my question. Can I freeze this ?

Oh and just a wee bye the bye. The frozen stuff I put in the fridge part to defrost for the next day works wonders in quickly bringing the fridge temp down

The alternative to freezing mashed potato is to mix when cold with a few herbs to taste, shape into fritters and fry . Not good for the figure but at my age - eat and enjoy. They are also lovely spread onto a slice of bread and butter and eaten like a sandwich.

Hi Cath!

I also precook meals to rake with us when we go away.Shepards pie is ok for freezing,so long as you dont make the mash too "soft".I tend to add marg/butter instead of milk for a firmer mash.

I always freeze mashed potato for use in the van - I use Rosti rings as a mould and freeze as a "potato cake" which is usually enough for one and then defrost as many as neccesary and use as topping for shepherds pie. I usually find it thaws out with a bit of water coming out but as you are going to put it in the oven or under the grill that doesn't matter too much. Delia once suggested, in her "How to Cheat" programme, using Aunt Bessies frozen mash but I personally prefer to make my own

yes it freezes and recovers very well. BUT please be careful about the container you use for it. HID uses the 1 litre containers which originaly held ice cream but has been know to forget the change the label.

So at an impromptu lunch she managed to serve fruit with "ice cream" that wasn't, and will probably never be allowed to forget it.
