Are you sitting comfortably? I shall begin!!
It was a very bright and sunny day when we left home. It was a bit of a run around when we had to be diverted 20 miles due to a road closure. Then just as the end was in sight we had a flat tyre on the caravan. Himself got to use all the toys he has acculated and off we went again. We should have been making our way" oop" north for a nice restful break but instead we had to stop off in Tamworth to take my sister for a check up as she was in a very confused state and we thought she had had a mini stroke. After a visit to A&E lasting 4 hours and then a doctors appointment no diagnosis was made but she seemed a little better. As her husband would be off work for a week or so we continued our journey.
We arrived on site and felt great because the weather was beeootifull !!! This was Saturday before Easter and until Wednesday night the sun shone. We heard on the tv that a little sleet/snow was expected on high ground.
The sleet arrived on cue ,the wind picked up to 70 miles an hour and then it SNOWED!!.We spent most of the night fighting to keep the awning from collapsing,no fun in pyjamas! When the dawn came we were up to 5ft of snow, the mains power was off and only a farm tractor was suppying a little electricity.
It was only a short time before the national press arrived to make our sad predicament public!! Photos of the family next door were duley taken whilst we stayed indoors in the warm.
On close inspection we have a couple of tears in the awning and 2 broken fibreglass poles. Thankfully we had bought 2 veranda poles and they saved the day/night!!!
When we were able to drive off site ours was the only bit of the area under snow. On Easter Saturday we made our way home only to receive the news that Himselfs little sister has terminal cancer.
A bit of snow and wind paled into insignificance and we are grateful to have the opportunity to do it all again.A luxury some will not have.
Live life to the full, good or bad its much better than not having the choice.Sorry but no happy ever after in this tale.

Dame TC so sorry to hear of your news if you can call it that, what a week!!
Mind you if I was stood in 5ft of snow only my forehead would be showing

The only thing I can say is the awning can be replaced/repaired unlike Himselfs little sister so sad, I lost my older sister 5 years ago at the age of 46, same diagnosis, pass on my good wishes to Himself and I extend them to you.
Your last paragraph Live life to the full, good or bad its much better than not having the choice. How true is that,
Take care TC thinking of you both.

Oh dear Dame T C what a lot of tragedy and upset.
You have my best wishes that you and Himself come through all these Life ordeals as well as possible given the very sad circumstances.

Dame TC
What sad news, my heart and thoughts are with you and your family, having lost both my brother to cancer and dad to Altzimers last year agree with your last words.
We were lucky that we had more time with my brother than the original diagnosis and made sure we had quality time together.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family too Thursdays Child. My husband lost his lovely sister at 37 very suddenly 7 years ago which led us to think "sod it, life's too short" and why we have just bought a caravan. You never know what is around the corner. I hope that your sister in law continues in her brave fight and I am sure she will be very well supported and cared for by what sounds like a very loving family. God bless you all.
