If its the latest DIRECTIONAL aerial that you can turn from inside the van it should give excellent pictures that bear no resemblace to the quality of picture received with the old flying saucer type

We can get pictures equal to the Sky dish pictures with our directioal aerial so I would check that all the coax leads and plugs are fitted properly and in the right socket on the booster

Good luck

hi frank

yours is the omni directional ariel, the directional is a better ariel, ive just upgraded mine from an omni, and now get a super picture.

something ive just read as well, is to try the ariel without the booster, give that a go, but your ariel isnt the latest one. just have a look at some older vans while your on your travels, youll see they also have the flying saucer where a lot of the newer ones have the directional

We have a Status 530 directional aerial, and we normally get a very good signal.

I normally look at the geeral direction the others on site are pointing, do an auto tune on the TV (analogue), change to BBC1, fine tune the direction of the aerial to get the best picture, then do an auto tune on the freeview.

The older spaceship type Status' are rubbish on digital.

Wherever we go, we usually get some sort of picture on Analogue, but it is never exactly excellent. However, when we try to tune in the digital, we are always confronted with the "check antenna cable and connections" message, meaning it hasn't picked up anything at all.

This problem has been partially rectified by purchasing an A-Frame aerial (the one on the pole). This does pick up most of the digital channels, the BBC's and ITV's etc, but we never seem to get as many channels as at home.

I think if we were buying all our equipment again, we wouldn't bother with the dedicated "caravan" aerials, they all seem pretty underpowered for digital. We would just buy a house aerial, and connect it to the awning channel on the other side of the van using the brackets you can get out of Towsure.

Alex,

All digital tv transmitters are on low power at the moment until the digital swich over is complete. Then they will be on their correct allocated power, with a consequent improvement in signal strength. Also not all areas of Britain are covered by digital. New transmitters will be added after switch over. At this time the analogue transmitters will finally be switched off.

Regards,

Ron (ex broadcast engineer)
