Hi coopycoopy, please turn your capitals off when typing, its the way of shouting when on the net. Anyway, I can understand what you say about the CC sites. I am a member and agree to an extent about the amount of stuff for kids to do. However, you will find there is still a lot of the CC sites that have play areas for children. I find that when I take my grand children with us to a CC site they are not bothered about the swings and things, they like to play with each other and thier grand parents. Its good for them but its better for me, exercise you see.
One thing about the CC sites is that the toilet blocks are always clean, I must say though that almost all private sites we have been to have very clean and modern toilets also. It is nice to stay on a clean site but we do a lot of looking around the towns and places where we stay so sometimes are not on the site during the day. I know if you have a family it can be expencive to do that as children are always wanting something as they go around and get bored of it.
I totally agree with your coment about the booking and people not turning up for the dates they pick. What I would say to you is even when the site shows full on the booking page on the net its best to give the site a ring. This is because some cancellations dont get cleared from the web site booking form. The wardens will give you a better idea of what there is available.
When we are away with our grand kids I always make sure I have a few cans in the fridge so when its my turn to lie about I have something to do. Please dont forget that when you are away with the caravan it is about chilling and relaxing and enjoying the kids when they are away from home and dont have the electronic games to play with.
There are plenty sites with bars on but most are not with either of the main clubs but you can find some club sites very near play areas and a pubs. Hope you find one you enjoy your time with your caravan.

I just think that a deposit system is fare and there are more sites to choose from with bars and pools and other things to do , i know caravanning is about relaxing and chilling out , and caravaning is for people of all ages , i just wanted to put my opinion accross , people go away for diffrent things ... and i respect that ... not everyone goes away to do the same thing , some people go away to get away from it all , others just to have a massive party and annoy fellow caravaners ... at least you know that if you do go away to a cc site it will be clean and quite and full of respectable cc site members ... i will prob end up between 2 caravans full of idiots having partys now lol then i think i would join the cc club .... thanks ... for reading ... cheers .

We joined because we like smaller sites and that is why we use CLs. Sites with clubs on don't appeal to us as we want peace and quiet. A CL we used a couple of weeks ago had electric water and drainage on the pitch. There was also a toilet and shower, 5 minutes walk and there was a nice Pub and a chippy. This was all for £10 a night.

"bars and pools and other things to do"
and they usually cost a lot more than a CC site.

i use Cls , i have kids, 10 and 4 yrs ( next month) . They dont need swings and climpbing frames, just a field to run around in, roll about on the grass , and they are in heaven.

Unvongo 93.. let me know which CLs you use so i can avoid them , i would not my wonderful childrens joyous laughter and shouts of absolute pleasure to put you off your cup of tea. When my kids are that happy i find it makes me 10 years younger and brings a smile to my face. Its like being out on sunny day , having a picinc in your favourite spot and soaking up the suns warmth.

Altough it usually ruined by some old grumpys complaing about the kids or the economy or politics or beciase they cant park their car where they want.

I cannot recall any CC site I've been on charge £38 per night. Where does that come from? Actually don't bother I doubt it will be my scene.

What would there be for the kids to do if CC sites had clubs, pubs or bars?

I'm not a CC member but I'm a member of the Camping & Caravanning Club which is run on similar lines i.e. no clubs, bars etc and high standards of hygene and cleanliness of the facillities that are provided.

We often use commercial sites with clubs and bars but to be honest I can go to my local anytime where I don't have to put up with kids running around the tables screaming while their parents sit drinking and ignoring the rowdy behaviour of their offspring disturbing everybody but them. Sometimes it's nice to relax and enjoy a quiet break which doesn't depend on the availability of bars or 'entertainment' (I use the word advisedly after witnessing some of the things that pass for entertainment on some commercial sites)

The 'old people' that you described have probably brought their kids up and have now moved on from clubs bars and crazy golf and the popularity of CC sites shows that 'good stuff for kids and adults' depends on personal preference, what is good for some might not be good for others so each to their own.
The C&CC require deposits to be paid and the popular sites are also well booked in advance so it could be said that deposits have no bearing on the availability of pitches.
Beside main club sites both clubs offer a range of services from breakdown cover at preferential rates, foreign travel, very good caravan insurance, free technical and legal advice, temporary holiday sites (C&CC) a vast network of 5 van sites some of which are very quiet and some of which are attatched to pubs if that's your thing and of course rallies which feature masses of 'good stuff for kids and adults' so what you get for your money depends on what you want but I'd suggest that for the modest sums involved clubs offer good value.
As I mentioned we often use commercial sites and there is room for all types of sites to suit everybody but as far as the CC or C&CC are concerned - don't knock it until you've tried it!

Hi dustydog, I think he ment the yearly membership fee, which I must say is not to bad really.
Coopycoopy, if you use the CL sites you will find that you can save more than the £38 you paid to join. A lot of the CL sites are near to or if not on a pub field. Some are within a walking distance of a town or village.
As you say about the deposit system, you are right that a lot of people do use it and never cancel. I was in favour of that system but instead of loosing your deposit it would be held to be used to come of the price of another booking. Thats my view though and do not want it pushed onto anyone elses views which could be different.

We joined the caravan club two years ago, mainly because we could book on line without having to make endless phone calls.Ithink there are a lot of good things about it,but it is really frustrating because we like to go at the weekend "on the spur of the moment".
If Ive had a rough week at work, the weather is set fair and the kids are not coming for Sunday dinner and no footie, then we will decide on the Friday to have a couple of nights in the van.I go onto the website, check the late availability, and every thing is booked solid apart from those sites in the middle of nowhere, and without toilet facilities. In this respect then, its not of much use to us being in the club.
As for the standard of toilet, shower facilities,I would expect them to be of a high standard on any site, club or not.My children are all grown up now,so what we want from a site has changed over the years.I wish I could turn the clock back though, cos when they were toddlers this was the best time ever.
Cheers Richard

I might join now , and so will alot of others be joining as it seems to me alot more people are buying caravans ... look below taken from a leading magazine ...

Some showrooms are reporting a rise in sales of 15 per cent fuelled by a new generation of younger caravaners.

Paul Clarke, MD of The Caravan Company, which has a chain of outlets around England, said this January was the company's best since 2003 as caravans become 'cool' again.

Clarke said demand for second hand caravans was particularly high and that a large percentage of buyers were young first-timers.
He said: "Business has been very good this January, much much better than last year and it has been our best year for quite some time.
The exhange rate has played a major factor as has the fact that less and less people are holidaying abroad.
"We have noticed a lot of much younger families are now buying caravans and they are nearly all first timers who don't have caravans to part exchange.
"Also the number of people enquiring about what caravaning is all about is up too."
The sales boom comes as the Camping and Caravaning Club report a record 53,000 new members in 2009 along with a 21 per cent increase in the number of bookings in 2010.
Director General Robert Louden said: "We have always based our reputation on being a family friendly Club and the latest figures are particularly encouraging.
"The Club is continuing to go from strength-to-strength and 2010 looks like being another successful year, although this is a hugely competitive industry and everyone will be fighting for a share of any increase in business."
The Caravan Club have also reported a rise of around 17 per cent in bookings.

thanks !

Whoops ,misunderstood him.

We also of course get a great magazine every month ! My kids flew the nest long ago but I don't feel any older, but may look it! LOL.
Those who read the CC Mag will know we now have a very young CEO / Director General who is also a keen caravanner. Thus I am confident the CC caters for all ages.

Kids on some sites get out of hand as their parents let them run riot whereas kids on CLs generally behave themselves. We use Cls right across the West Midlands and gloucestershire if that is of any help.

thanks, i will make sure it try to use them more often.I would like to think that my kids dont cuse problems , but they probably do, just like yours did when you took them caravaning all those years ago ( although i suspect you knew exactly what they were doing, with who , with what and where).

By far and away the worst noise issues i have found on CC and CLs is not children but adults, sat up late drinking, with the music on or tvs on loudly or dogs barking, and caravan doors slamming as the old folks totter off to the loo 2 or 3 times a night.

I have to say that on most of the sites that we've visited, C&CC main sites, certified sites, commercially owned sites and on the many rallies that we attend the overwhelming majority of children that we've seen are reasonably well behaved and polite.
We enjoy hearing children running around outside enjoying themselves and because these children spend time doing things as a family with their parents they are more often than not a credit to their parents.
The trouble is that no one notices the well behaved children but we all notice those who are often left to their own devices while their parents sit around drinking and enjoying themselves while their kids create mayhem for others.
These kids always seem to hang around shower / toilet blocks or run round other peoples tables while their parents are in the clubhouse or their awning without a care in the world.
