Hi there,

We have to leave our van in it's storage location partly under some trees. Really we have no choice in the matter unless we want to spend hundreds of pounds more than we do at an alternative storage place and where we are is cheap, secure and local.

We are considering a cover as the top gets covered in sap and bird Sh*te. I have heard some bad experiences of covers but would like to get some honest feedback. I see towsure do them and they seem quite reasonable and as our van is a new 2010 we want to keep it as nice as we can. Can you just get a cover for the roof as I would be worried about a full cover scratching the windows etc...

Thanks,

hi there

ive heard alot of bad things about covers too. what i have heard of people doing though is getting tarpaulin big enough to fit the roof of the van, secure it in the corners and use the pipe insulation around the rope as you can get it dirt cheap and it cushions the rope against the van not to scratch it, rub etc. then if its quite a long van you could do it in the middle too.

lots of different things you can do and different ways. sure someone will be along soon though :)

NO, NO, NO, that is the easy way to damage a caravan!

We have actually USED (not heard of from someone else!) a Protec cover for the past 4 years (plus 2 one the previous caravan) with no problems.

I have used a cover on my last 4 caravans, as we have to park ours under a sweet chestnut tree during the winter. Providing the caravan is clean when you fit it you should not have any problems with the cover damaging the paintwork or the windows.I have used tailor made covers at

Thanks for the feedback. I think anything is going to be preferable to the muck off the trees so I think we will be going for one. As you suggest Henry we will go for a lower end price and look to replace it sooner.

Cheers

I had a Purple Line cover which was cheap but useless. It quickly degraded and when wet easily rips. Covers can be good but you need to pay for a quality one. Some companies do them that cover the roof only so there is no risk of window damage.

I use a Specialist tailored cover for my van. I store it on a farm and use the cover at all times. It certainly keeps the van nice an clean and being green it camoflages the van as well. I have absolutely no sign of damp and do not have to worry about the sun fading the upholstery. This means that all blinds and flyscreens can be left without tension during the winter. I have now stored it over 2 winters and there is no sign of wear on the cover. I would recommend a good cover to anyone!
