Hi all, so this weekend we have found that our electric is not quite working as it should. When hooked up to the electric only the lights work and no plug sockets if we run off the battery the lights work and the ignition of the cooker but no sockets. I've checked the main fuse board which is situated in a cupboard in the bathroom and nothing has tripped there. Are there anywhere else to check for fuses? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have 12 volt, but not mains. Check your consumer unit. Are you getting power to the va? Is the power supply unit (charger) getting power?

Sorry, could be a number of things.

Hi John, apologies, this may sound extremely stupid. But where would I find the PSU. The guys on site have looked their end and say nothing has tripped. Also our neighbours who used the same power supply was fine. Apologies for sounds completely clueless still trying to learn the ins and out of the van.

In most vans the PSU is behind or integrated in, the consumer unit. It has mains power input. And a strong 12 volt output which powers your lights, pump, and any low voltage sockets.

What is your van, and what year?

First thing to point out is that your 3 pin sockets (domestic household type soçkets) won't ever work if you're not plugged into the EHU - they can't be powered from the battery (unless you have an inverter).

Could you ask your neighbours (I'm assuming that you mean caravan pitch neighbours) if you could borrow their hook up cable for 5 minutes? It could be that your cable is no good.

May be oversimplified in which case my apologies (!) but the mains bollard is not one of those where you insert the EHU and spring twist to the right to activate the mains supply?

I got caught out by the same thing in Exeter, took the EHU cable apart both ends, about two hour then found out about the bollard twist hook up.

I know exactly what you're talking about, I think they were made by Legrand. I don't think I've seen one for 20 years.

Good shout but you would hope the 'guys on site' who checked the supply for the op would have picked this up.
