Caravan Fridge Light

Hi All

We have a 2007 Abbey Vogue 460 with a Thetford fridge which has an internal light. After only a short while the light stopped working so I got a new bulb fitted when the caravan went in for its first service. This worked OK for a relatively short time but then went very dim.

Checking the light fitting contacts with a meter shows 12+ volts and checking the bulb across a battery lights the bulb brightly. Does anyone have any ideas as to the problem ?

According to the label in the fridge, the bulb should be 15.5V 7W which my Swift approved service company said they have never heard of. They had to fit a 12V 10W (I think). Any comments about this bit ?

One last query, anyone know how these lights switch on /off when the door is opened /closed. There is no apparent 'switch'.

Hi John,

Can't add much to your comments about the bulb type - does seem stange that Thetford use a non-standard rating type though.

Regards the lack of switch, there is a magnet in the door frame that makes / unmakes a switch in the 'fridge body when you open the door. We have had some problems with ours not being lined up properly (apparently) and have had it adjusted twice.

John M,

Your fridge should still be under warranty so why not give your dealer a ring. If they cannot solve your problem they should contact Thetford on your behalf.
