The only items that are actually serviced are the running gear items as they do not have to change oil etc. on a caravan. All the rest are checks even the gas system is a check as that is not serviced. If you do not know that your hob does not light or that a cupboard does not open and close maybe you need a another hobby?
To give my Jeep a full main service that includes changing the oil, transmission and axle fluids amongst other things is just over £400 in a Jeep dealership. An ordinary service is about £120 of which nearly £70 is the cost of the oil. How does a caravan dealer justify charging £250 for servicing a caravan?
Mobile technicians charge a more reasonable and acceptable fee!

I really wish I had known about this. I went to see the lawyer mid week and he didn’t tell me they do caravan servicing. Too late as well now. Had mine done last Wednesday ;)

With labour rates like those I think I’d like to move to your area. Our local independent garage is £80ph and heavens knows what the solicitor charges!

Our caravan dealer charges £50an hour, for the car dealers charge £75 plus. Solicitors and accountants can charge £200 or more although it does depend at what level they work.

Having read the article , whilst broadly accurate it is misleading in respect of the use of a flue gas analyser.
Fact is that the AWS does NOT require the use of a flue gas analyser, and a room test for CO is not a requirement of the AWS service sheet.

A good engineer will have taken on board the issues that I personally have raised and promoted about the use of Flue Gas analysers and will use one to not only do a room test but also the exhaust from the heater, cooker, and any other gas burning appliance.

Just turning a gas appliance on to see if it lights is NOT good enough and I would urge users to demand the readouts from the Flue Gas Analyser (which would automatically be given by a GOOD engineer) for each appliance.

If your choice of service agent does NOT do this essential testing, do you want to rely on his word alone.........I don't !!!!

A good point, perhaps the AWS service could include for a flue gas check like car servicing doesn’t (for many makes) automatically include brake fluid change, cam belt change, gearbox/diff fluid or coolant change, but it would be an option to be accepted or declined.
