The siteon Bled is quite good I believe we have looked around it. Also one called Danica which is ACSI Camping Card out of season. We go to Slovenia a lot but always stay over the border in Southern Austria on the Ossiachersee we go over and spend the day there.

Hi Val
We visited Slovenia and Croatia in Summer 2010. We stayed at Camp Bled and you can read my review here:
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=10192
When we were there it was very busy and quite crowded. If I was going again I would have a look at nearby Camping Slobec which we passed but did not visit.

We, also, walked through Camping Zlatarog which is actually on the shores of lake Bohinj. It is beautiful location but when we walked through in August it was very crowded and had a rather untidy appearance with caravans, campervans and tents all over the place and very close together. We were walking to the "Tourist Boat" which sails along the lake from a pier in the campsite.
Post again if you have specific questions and I will try to answer.
Slovenia is a beautiful country but it is a long drive from the channel ports. We took 4-5 days each way to Bled with some night halts enroute.

Myself and Mrs Donnelly are hoping to explore Croatia and Slovenia by caravan in May. Big Tim, I have noted your site recommendations, so thanks.

Did you drive all the way down through Slovenia? I'm tempted to drive down and get the ferry across to Bari and head up through Italy on the return leg.

Any comments welcomed!

Hi Nigel
We drove down from Dunkerque to Croatia via France, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria. We stopped off at:
Camping Buttelwoog - 1night
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=10535
Camping Panorama Harras - 2 nights
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=10437
and then entered Slovenia via the Karawanken Tunnel
On the way home we drove through Slovenia and into Austria near Linz
Service near Zagreb - 1 night!
Internationaler Campingplatz Nabtaal - 2 nights

We found it LONG journey - the car mileage from home in St Helens and back again was 3,303 miles!!
We used the autoroutes/motorways for our journey, free ones in France and Germany and paid for vignettes in Austrian and Slovenia - bought at service stations/border posts, and toll booths in Croatia. Check toll vignettes carefully. On our way home Cary misread the date on our Austrian vignette, it had expired, and we got stopped and fined €100 by a motorway official!!! There are some additional tunnel tolls in Austria.
All of the roads on our routes were good. The Croatian motorway was very new and very quiet. Croatian roads away from the motorway could be both congested, beware the coast road in Croatia for congestion, and sometimes scary when towing, eg, narrow with unguarded hairpins. Croatia was the least sophisticated country, not yet in the EU, so their own currency, but English was very widely spoken. Parking was very hard to find in Split.
Please post again if you have any further questions.
Went went in July/August so it would be much quieter in May when you plan to go.
Best wishes
Tim

Tim,
That's fab information. Thanks for taking the time to dig it all out. We are hoping to spend around five days in and around Croatia and Slovenia, with a few days travelling down and back again. I've driven through Germany, Austria and Switzerland in a camper van but we like the idea of somewhere new and many of the sites look amazing, if a little on the massive side! The route may be dictated by the outfit (it's getting on a bit) and the fact that we are writing up the trip for the magazine so will need to meet a photographer at some point. I may well be back in touch with regard to other information though so cheers
Regards and many thanks
Nige
