Caravan theft

I am posting this message in the hope someone can help or offer advice. We bought our first caravan last month - a 2006 Bailey Pageant Provence. We had been keeping it on our secluded drive until we had time to investigate suitable storage. At around 3.15 in the afternoon, 3 thieves entered our property and managed to hitch up the van before being interrupted by my fiancee. They then tried to make a hasty exit. Instinctively, my fiancee ran alongside the car to the top of the drive and subsequently got crushed between the gatepost and moving caravan. One of the thieves made eye contact from the road, they left her lying on the ground and made away with the outfit. Her injuries include crush injuries to the head, numerous scrapes & bruises and a broken collar bone. To add insult to injury, we are due to get married at the beginning of June - my fiancee is in agony and traumatised by the whole event. We are convinced this was a targeted theft as the van could not be seen from the road. The police are not optimistic of finding either the van or the thieves. Needless to say, our introduction to the world of caravanning has been smashed apart. We were looking forward to many breaks and adventures in our new pride and joy.....

Kevin,I really don't know what to say, I'm horrified ! One consolation is that although your fiancee's injuries are bad things could have been a lot ,lot worse. The loss of the van takes second place here and its a shame the police seem to have made up thier minds already that they will not find it. You would think, given what has happened they would not stop until they had found the culprits.

Best wishes to your fiancee on a speedy recovery and I'm sure all will be right in the end.

As a new caravaner I can only say how sorry I am to read your post and the horrors you and the good lady must be suffering.

All I can do is wish you both good luck for the wedding and the future. Hope both work out well

Kevin,

I was absolutely horrified when I read your post.

I do hope that your fiancee has a speedy recovery and that the wedding goes well.

Hope that you will continue with caravanning.....would not like to think that the B's will put you off.

Sorry to hear about your poor partner and the loss of your van.

I'm shocked that three people could bypass whatever security measures you had in place and hope that you had taken measures that satisfied your insurers requirements.

It concerns me that the police seem so negative about a van that has Selectamark electronic tagging.

This factor should be a worry to many caravan and boat owners, that the police consider this security feature worthless!

I realise that you would be upset about your partner.

Detail re the area you live in and the police force involved would help many others!

A call to the BBC local news desk would hi-light the case and maybe help in the vans recovery, I'm actually surprised that they have not already picked up on this crime with your lady being badly injured.

An old fashioned alarm may have been a worth while addition as well.

Bailey - Please Note
