Do you have to change your tyres after 5 years if they are in good condition is it a legal thing or insurance requirement thanks John

The time limit recommendation has always been 7 years from date of manufacture - the 5 years recommendation, which still applies comes from the amount of time that a tyre may spend in the supply chain at manufacturer, distributor, caravan manufacturer and caravan dealer before actually being sold as "new" - which can easily be 12 months sometimes much longer.Damian-Moderator said:NO.
The recommended time limit was raised to 7 years some time ago, providing they are in good condition, no cracking, or bulges or separation between the treads.

Nothing has changed - the recommendation, it's not a limit, has always been 7 years from date of tyre manufacture - but allowing for time in stock at tyre wholesalers, caravan manufacturers before assembly and at dealers awaiting sale, then 5 years from caravan purchase is a reasonable time to change.Damian-Moderator said:Quote " Caravan bought in November 2008? You are wrong.
The time limit was raised to 7 years quite while ago, providing they are in good condition.
It goes without saying that the time limit is determined by the date code on the tyre.

this approach seems to relate only to new vans not ones that are older than their first set of tyres! My current tyres which are infinitely superior to the OEM tyres and higher load index were less than three months old when fitted.
