Anyone been to Carradale Bay C.C. site, Mull of Kintyre? Would appreciate any comments about it please. We are thinking of going there and also breaking the journey by staying at Englethwaite Hall C.C. site, Carlisle on the way up.
Carradale Bay is a fine site. The single track way in from the road is a bit of a bind as passing places are few and often muddy. In wet weather cars get coated in white (chalk or limestone?)
One piece of advice - keep to the main road and double back to Carradale - don't take the single track road down the eastern side unless you enjoy a challenge. It is not onl single track but has steep gradients and tight bends. Last time I went that way it was raining hard and, in the middle of an up-hill hair-pin bend I lost traction. There was a B.T. van just inches off my back panel and it took some time for the driver to realise there was a problem and back off to let me reverse to where I could start again. It took three goes and, even then it was just as well nothing came downhill as I struggled!
However, don't be put off the site and surrounds is worth the effort. The fine sandy beach adjoins the site and you might see the herd of wild goats which promenade along the sands most evenings.

P.S. There is another pleasant site at Tayinloan, part way down the west coast of the Mull. It is right on the beach and near he ferry across to Gigha.

Just read your message. I went to Carradale Bay last August and it's is realy nice. It's set in some spectacular scenery, and if your lucky, you may see the dolphins putting on a show in the bay. Pitches are laid out in random fashion, dvided by headges and shrubs, and newspapers delivered each morning by local van.
Some nice hotels nearby, and all in all, a really relaxing site.
Thank you Charles, I'm glad of your favourable comments because since I posted the original message I've gone ahead and booked it for 10 days in June. On the way up and back we are breaking our journey at Englethwaite Hall,Cumbria,3 days each way.
My main concern is, are there any of those infernal midges on the site?????????????????????????????????????????????????????
