hello, my fire a carver SLP3002 has the control knob and rod missing, does anyone know where i can get a replacement, also a diagram of the workings of it would be handy, failing that will the SL3002 or the SL5002 fit my trumavent ten fan and flue, are there any other fires that will slot straight in to a 1988 swift body without major surgery, any and all comments are welcome, thanks, mick56.

Hello mick56.

The Carver SLP3002 (Manual ignition) was a re-badged Truma SLP3002, which shared the same physical dimensions and fittings as the SL3002(electronic ignition). The SL5002 is essentially two 3002 heat exchangers linked together so would require some new fitting arrangements which might not be possible in the Swift.

Alternative products that utilise very similar fitting arrangements will be the Carver 3000 series, and more recently the Truma S3004.

It would be advisable to replace all the flue parts with authorised contemporary parts.

The Trumavent fan should retro fit all these models.

For safety all gas appliances should be removed and fitted by a competent gas fitter

No need at the moment to consider replacing all, what you need is a replacement control rod for an 'old style Truma 5002' control rod,.asking for 'old style' being very important as the later one is completly different
The 3002's rod being a bit short, the 5002 is too long but can now be shortened at the control knob end to give the correct length, about 40mm from memory?.
The carver version used a short plastic and piano wire adaptor to connect rod to gas valve, it was/is common for these to fail, often leaving the broken brown plastic end in the top of the gas valve. This broken bit is usually very stiff to remove, however it does with care come out, leaving a hole to except the, designed for, Truma version's wire with a little bent loop or 'eye' on the end.

It must though be considered you have no idea of the history and it obviously has not been used for some time, it is then very important for your safety to get the fire checked out/serviced professionally before use.
