my recently bought Lunar caravan has a Carver crystal 3 system and I have been unable to buy a replacement cartridge, even after calling Truma who I believe took over Carver. Can anyone tell me if the 'newer', screw in design is a straight swap or will I have to make the hole bigger or smaller ( I have'nt bought one yet). Thanks.

The Crystal 3 was discontinued very shortly after it was first introduced and filters are almost impossible to obtain now.

You wil have to replace with the Crystal 2 which is almost a straight replacement but needs an adaptor plate to fit in the original Crystal 3 opening.

Hello arthur,

Damians advise is correct,

For accuracy, Truma did not take over Carver, Carver sold their touring leisure heating/water and movers interests to Truma. Carver continues to manufacture a range of other products in the UK and Europe.

hi arthur

while the advice you have been given is correct could I ask why you fell the need for a filter at all, many vans don't have one at all especially vans with whale water inlets which are just a little square flap where the whale pump pipe fits in, after all the water taps on site are mains water so no debris to filter out presumedly the water hog is clean so why bother there is a filter on the water pump it's self and you can stop any debris falling into the hog or aqua roll by sealing the pipe sleeve with a tyewrap.

Not quite correct infomation, the mk2 filter housing itself is no longer available!

Todays answer is to fit truma's mk4, is it called smart flow system?, again though it's a simple swap of the housing and you also need the mk4's pump head to connect your exsisting pump.

If its the filter i use to have on my avondale, the type that screws in from outside of the van, just detach the housing from the cap, the filter is not really required in the Uk.

They were expensive anyway.

Again if its the carbon filter, do not leave it in too long as the filter medium ends up in the pipework, takes years to get it completly out, bar stripping all the pipework out.

True but there are still plenty of Mk2s around and you can get complete replacement filters from Filtapac.
