Cascade Rapide Water Heater

I was wondering if anyone can help in relation to the Water Heater in my motorhome? Although the van is connected to mains electric, the red light comes on 30 seconds after the heater is switched on. Has anyone come across that before and how do I fix the problem?

Hello mylesjiml,

The Cascade Rapide water heater has two methods of heating its water. Gas and/or mains electric. You can use either or both together as they have dedicated thermostats for each system, and they have two separate control switches.

I am pretty certain from your description you are looking at the gas system control switch, which does not affect the mains heater at all. If the Red light comes on, that suggests the gas burner has failed to ignite and the system has locked out.

The mains powered element will have a domestic style fused spur switch, Some caravan manufacturers used a switch with a Neon and some didn't. To find it, follow the cable from the inboard end or the heaters tank. To use it, simply turn the mains switch on or off as required. If the heater has been empty of water and turned on and over heated, then there is a resetable button on the plastic housing on the inboard end of the heater.

My advice is to read the instruction book for the heater. If you haven't got one look at

The reason the red light comes on could be as suggested you hace switched on the gas rather than the electric. The heater caravan should have a cover over the heaters gas outlet on the outside of the caravan. The gas only works when this is taken off. If you remove this and try agaian and the red light does not come on you are heating with the gas supply. If you post the make and model of your caravan hopfully someone will have one and can tell you where the electric switch is. If it helps ours is on the front of the bed locker just in front of the heater and is a standard switch with a neon indicator..

The Cascade does not have a removable cover.
The Truma Ultrastore does.
