Charging leisure batteries

Could anyone tell me if you should remove the screw caps on top of a leisure battery when charging? The battery is on constant charge over the winter months using a three stage leisure battery charger.Any help would be appreciated.

Jim, if the battery has a vent, then you dont really need to worry.

You shoul dnever remove the plugs for longer than topping up the diatilled water as there is a the chance of something falling in the open hole and possibly causing a short circuit of the plates.

If you are concerned about the buid up of gases and possible explosion, then just slacken the plugs but leave them in their respective holes.
