Just had a letter from the CEO of Royal Bank of Scotland telling me all their branch offices and those of Nat West in Scotland are being sold off to Santander including my bank account!
Gutted. I had my first account with Williams and Glyns who were then bought by the RBS.
Fred the Shred must have really gummed up the works.
Checking on the now fully public Financial Ombudsman Service web site I was shocked to see that the worst performing bank with the most complaints was / is Santander. Well done RBS for dropping me in the deep guano.
Needless to say after 40 years as a customer I shall be moving on.

But where?? mmm. Any ideas??

You are right about the reviews of Santander, it always comes last in any tables for customer service and top for complaints.
If it is of any help, I have banked with Nationwide for over 35 years and have never had any problems with them.
I use their On Line banking a lot and it always works, and I get interest on my account.

I ditched the main banks years ago due to their stupid charging and inflexible attitiude.

before they do that , transfer your account to Santander, as Santander will give you £100 and 5% AER on your current account.

If Santander just buy your account and branch then you will not get your £100.0

Had our joint account for many years with Midland Bank. When they became HSBC things all went pear shape. Last resort when we had letter from local branch asking us to call in to discuss our account. Made appointment and at meeting was told they knew nothing about the letter and therefore could not help us. Both my wife and I took time off work for this meeting. We walked around the corner and came across Nationwide so transferred our business there and so far there has been no problem with them. At present I cannot fault them.

I bank with the RBS and can not praise them highly enough. I am in the process of moving house, and last week while transferring funs to my wifes account online , i sent all the money to a credit card account( not rbs). This money was for removals, paying carpet fitters, new beds , and other sundries. It was a substantial amount.

Rbs could not retrieve the money, the cc company can not send it back for at least 10 working days.

RBS have given me an interest free loan , no fees at all to cover the money i sent to the cc, untill the cc company sends it back.

That is customer service of the highest kind.

Latest from Sky News:
Royal Bank of Scotland (LSE: RBS.L - news) has revealed details of a mass closure of UK insurance sites that will see at least 2000 people lose their jobs.
The bank is currently informing staff of the plans, which will see 14 of its insurance centres close completely, with job losses at over a dozen more.

It (was) forced by the European Commission to sell its insurance division as part of the deal to allow it to accept the Government's bailout.

No wonder they can give free loans with money from the Taxpayer.

Customer service may be OK, but Staff loyalty is somewhat lacking

Hi,
Just imagine that you used to be a Santander customer, but, for whatever reasons, you closed that account and moved to RBS. Now you are back where you started.
My bank holds personal details about myself and my wife. I feel I could become upset if those details were sold on to somebody else. Similar problems arise with car insurance, but it is brought to my attention that my details will be shared with other insurance companies. If I don't like it, nobody is forcing me to take out insurance (or drive a car), but some people are forced to have a bank account in order to get paid.

I like that one Phil; £100 from Santander. I'll check out what the catches are if any.
We do have an old account with Nationwide and they do seem on the ball. If you check out the Financial Ombudsman Service there are more complaints about Santander than anyone else.
Originally we were with Williams and Glyns which were then taken over by RBS some 30 years ago. Always found my local RBS branch excellent but I can see that closing as the Santander branch is only down the road.

We had two accounts, one with Alliance & leicester and the other with Nationwide. No issues with Nationwide but always issues with A & L (Santander) and eventually gave up and closed the account.
