hi all thinking of getting a voyager 2.5td 98-99 has any one got any views on these for towing

i have a 1986 abbey 418gt 1245kg(thats what the plate on the van says)

i presently have a pajero 2.8 td but find it is very juicy and with the weight of the car it doesnt really pull any better than my old mondeo 2.0 tdi which i sold to get the pajero thinking the paj would be better the only thing that is better is the load on the back end of the car,the mondeo was almost on its stops

any comments will be appreeciated

cheers

Looked at the car back in 2001/2 time. Was advised that it used an Italian based diesel engine that does not have one single cylinder head and was prone to engine problems.

I went to a nearby dealers in Surrey to check the car out and had a good test drive and was quite impressed. Walking back through the dealers under building parking area I spotted three voyagers parked with bonnets open.

Leaving the salesman I walked back to check out the cars, all three were diesels and had top ends stripped, a workshop mechanic asked me what I was up to do and I explained I was a potential buyer and about my concerns about the word re the cylinder head.

He had a quick look around him for his bosses and then advised that they were a BIG problem and to walk away if I wanted a reliable car, the mechanics hated them as they had so many with engine worries.

I've since learnt that they a have a quite low tow weight and another conact who runs an airport car service had engine problems with three diesels one that towed a luggage trailer had to have the engine rebuilt at under 10000 miles.

hi all i actually got the voyager i have heard bad storys and alot of good ones aswell, being a mechanic i can put it right

when i got the paj i was told how bullet proof they are and how much better the 2.8 was to the 2.5 but shortly after getting it i had to do the timing chain which from experiance on other vehicles fitted with chains they normally outlast the car

this only cost me
