We are probably going to Cirencester CC site or Moreton in Marsh CC site for summer holidays this year. We have a 19 month old daughter so we need a toddler room. Can anyone vouch for this area of England as being lovely countryside? You know, the whole countryside pubs, lovely villages, country lanes scene? We dont want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere so we have chosen the above sites for location, standards etc. Any reccomendations for the above description would be most welcome. Thanks.

Hi Andy

I absolutely love this place,it is a beautiful part of the world, your daughter will love the cotswold animal park as will yourselfs it is a fabulous day out, also a drive into stratford on avon pubs and restaurants along the river, boat trips and lots of quaint little shops, also warwick castle at the weekend when the jousting is on !! I went last year with a two year old and an 12month old and we all had a great time, incidentally the burford cc site is a good location for all this as well moreton-in-marsh! Have A great time I dont think you can fail !(safe journey)

Andy

I have visited both of these sites and they are both absolutely beautiful, and both are within walking distance of the village ie/ pubs etc.

That sounds great. Thanks all for the reply. I had heard a strange thing though about the moreton area (not the site) being unwelcoming towards dogs? Also the dog is 12 this year and cant walk too far, are both towns the same distance from their respective sites? I am travelling from Stirling in Scotland so I just want to be certain as 360 miles is a long way to go to find out something.

There is no problem with dogs at Moreton On Marsh and it has a very large dog exercise area. Moreton would be my prefered site out of the two.

I grew up in Cirencester and went to a Grammar School founded 1260 which was closed to form part of the school now next to the CC site. Despite this, I think Cirencester far superior to Moreton and with much more of interest in the immediate vicinity.(Other (!) famous Old Boys include Dr Jenner and Wally Hammond)

The church is known locally and deservedly as the Cathedral of the Cotswolds. There is a splendid public park with lake within a minutes walk from the town centre.

Explore the lanes particularly between the roads to Stroud and Gloucester - Sapperton and Frampton Mansell - and Misenden

Then follow the Thames from Thames head to Lechlade and Fairford.

Finally go to Bibury and Barnsley - pubs are less touristed in Barnsley.

Enjoy.

Yes, I think I would prefer to go to Cirencester. I can hardly wait and I think the weather is likely to be better than what we had last year in Speyside. The North of Scotland is outstanding, but the weather is very changeable up north. which is why we are asking around for advice on attractive areas in England.

I beg to differ on Bibury and tourists. We stayed there for a long weekend and after one visit into Bibury decided that there were better places to go to in an effort avoid tourists. Strange saying that because as a caravanner you are a tourist!

The place was rather overcrowded and that was at Easter, however I do recommend it for a visit. Cirenster CC must rate as one of the best sites in the country after Moreton howevr after 3 - 4 days Cirencester gets boring in my opinion. Moreton on the other hand has Stow and Burton on Water just down the road. Chipping Camden is just up the hill with Broadway and Evesham close by. The variety is superior to Cirencester which I recommend for a weekend visit but not a long stay.

Thanks for the replies. To Ian: which of the two areas is the better for the idylic country scene? I am not really a townie and wouldn,t be to fussed about having towns to visit nearby. Thanks for the comment though, very helpful.

having just returned from a break at moreton in marsh cc site we were well impressed with the site and the surrounding area.It was our first time in the cotswolds area and we totally fell in love with it.The site itself had friendly wardens and spotless facilities including really good dog walk.Totally agree about the cotswolds wildlife park, good value for money also thenearby falconry centre was well worth a visit.Moreton in marsh is a nice little place but we disagree about stratford as we attempted a sunday visit and found the traffic system and all those roundabouts an utter pain!

Hi Denise,

Glad you had a great time, suprised about stratford though have never had a prob ! wether there was an event on that day or something and you were unlucky to get caught in it! We always park in the centre right by the river, near the butterfly house and have always found space, hope you try again because it is worth it !x

Ideally you would choose the CC CL near Bibury but if it is proper parks you are after, then Moreton is the one as you can then walk around the Cotswolds. The Club in Moreton is slightly out of the town however close enough if you want to walk in and have a beer.
