Citroen C4 Picasso

Over the past year or so I've seen various towing tests using the new Citroen C4 Picasso, but whilst most were agreed on it's towing strengths all commented on the fact that it made for an uncomfortable journey due to the way the suspension is set up. But does anyone have any experience of this car fitted with the optional pneumatic rear suspension in place of the standard conventional arrangement ?

Have you any experience of this particular variant (the option is available on 'Exclusive' trim only) ? Or have you heard from any members who have bought one for towing with ?

I have a new caravan on order for delivery in early summer and need to change my present towcar in readiness, so would appreciate any advice or comments which you feel able to make.

It would help if you could tell us make/model Gross laden weight of your new caravan - otherwise it is impossible to suggest a suitable 'Tug'

We tow with a C4 grand picasso (as opposed to a C4 Picasso) and its a great tow car. We tow an Abbey Expression 550 which is basically a Vogue 540 special edition model - 6 berth 1490kg MTPLM. The car is the 2.0 turbo diesel exclusive with the semi automatic gearbox. MPG on a run is high 20's. It will do low 30's on a motorway with cruise control on in auto mode.

To be fair this is my first tow car and caravan so i cant really compare to much, however a friend of mine tows and he thinks its a comfortable ride with plenty of power whilst towing.

The only weaknesses I would say as a towcar is that it struggles to cope with reverse parking - the clutch isn't at all happy even on a flat piece of ground which I am getting checked out by Citroen. The suspension is excellent - we have 3 kids and plenty of gear to lug about, its very comfortable and not too wallowy. It depends on what you're used to driving, we've had 3 french MPVs which all have soft suspension.

forgot to mention, the early Citroen brochure had the max towing weight at 1300kgs - it is in fact 1500 kgs max train weight of just over 3600kg. Citroen will confirm that in writing if you ask
