My mother has just sent me a cutting out of the Mansfield Chad for the 20th June 1951. Theres a pic in there of Samuel Barlow School in 1951 and I'm on it. If any of you Nottsites have the paper I'm the one stood below the #20 on the wall. Even at 5 you could see I had a regal bearing .... hehheh!

Copy of email ....

My mother has just sent me the pic from your 20th June edition regarding the Yesteryear item showing the first year class at Samuel Barlow in 1951. I recall some of the names for David Redman, who unfortunately I cannot remember. Sat in the front is Alfred Whittaker, who sadly died while a pupil at Samuel Barlow. I can still remember Mr. Sykes, the headmaster, announcing his death while in assembly. Like David, I also remember going to see Wilfred and Mabel Pickles in the hall next to the Miners Welfare. The names I recall on the photo are the following :-

Neil Bell, Peter Radford, Robert Gillott, Jaqueline Harrison, David Berry, Kieth Jeavons, John Smith, Ondra Mills, Clifford Scattergood, Terry Wilson, Julie Walton, Sid Kerry, Ivan Lee, Derek Wilson, Brenda Froggatt, Ruth Pearson, David? Purchase. I believe that two of the above names, John Smith and David Berry, passed away at an early age. Apologies to those whose names I couldn't recall. I hope this helps David to remember, regards,

Chris Martin
