"CL's" in Europe (not holiday camps!)

The frustration is mounting. We are seeking quiet and peaceful caravan sites which are not focussed upon play areas and pools, discos etc. Our ideal site is in the mountains, good space between the caravans; water and good sanitation. Main hookup is a bonus but not vital.

We really wanted to visit Austria but all we can find are holiday camps that enthusiastically advertise their entertainment schedule and kids facilities ! And whilst many of the sites state that they are 'quiet', I suspect that this means that there is no road or railway noise; noise from the campsite pool or bar / disco may be a different matter !!

So, does anyone know of a guide which caters for my (probably not peculiar) needs ?!! As I say, Austria is my target but will happily consider Germany or Italy provided the location and ambiance are right.

Thanks; John

John the following campsites are listed by the Austrian Camping Club as being being particularly suited for senior citzens, directly by a lake and partially shaded. I don't know whether you fall into the category of senior citizenship but I would assume that such sites would be relatively quiet.

Have a look at Austrian Camping Club (filtered listing

If you pick a site and click on 'Detail Info' you will see how many pitches they have under 'Anschl

Hi

These are exactly the sort of sites we would be looking for, anywhere in Europe. We want peaceful surroundings, no 'entertainment' laid on, and good views or ambiance.

I shall look at your suggestion Lutz, thanks for that, and if anyone else has any suggestions I will definitely follow them up.

thanks

We own a small 'CL' type site here in the Loire Valley. No entertainment, although we cook for guests twice per week in summer. We have a small pool to cool off in, plenty of trees to offer shade and we're open all year. If you would like further info, drop me a line and I'll gladly give you the website details.

We find that the vast majority of guests (families included) are now seeking out the places where you can just relax, enjoy your surroundings and recharge your batteries.

Hello Lutz; well I am not a senior citizen for a decade or so but perhaps our requirements for peace are not dissimilar!

The web site you post looks inteersting but I shall need a German English dictionary of caravan terms !!

Stuart; your 'CL' sounds lovely too; yes please post details so that we can have a look.

regards

John

Hi all, I don't believe that I'm breaking the rules by mentioning our website in response to direct questions. Please have a look at www.loire-gites.com for more details. The site carries alot of other useful info for the traveller to France, as well as the more local area, things to do, places to visit etc.

I hope this is ok. I'm sure someone will tell me if it isn't. Apologies in advance.

Hi Val & Frank,

thanks for thinking of us as well as the rules. Sometimes it's difficult to know what to do isn't it. Hopefully we'll be corrected (or not) if we've done the wrong thing. Your support is much appreciated!

Take care.

Hello Vi; well I have looked through the Austrian camp site (web) site as posted by Lutz. I think I have found but a single site irknitzer site near Lienz southern Austria which appeasr to meet the criteria .... not sure though really. Lutz has sugegsted that we simply tour the area where, apart from August, we shoud eb able to find accommodation easily. Personally like to me more orgianised. So I shall continue to keep my eyes open!

thanks Jeff and John,

We shall look at both these suggestions. it does seem to be quite difficult to find small, quiet sites, especially in holiday areas. We will go anywhere in Europe and have already travelled here extensively without a caravan. If I find anything I'll let you knoe,

Vi
