Club's - Worth it?

Okay, wasn't sure which heading to put this under so plumped for here.

Bought a new (to me) caravan. Very pleased with it and while rummaging through all the instruction books and various literature and receipts, came across a 2007 members pack for CCC.

This is good, I thought loads of places to go.

Now my question at last is:

What makes it worth joining?

I don't see massive or even moderate discounts for members on sites, just the ability to use CL's or CS's dependant on the club you join.

Am I just being a bit too greedy?

I assumed that I would be able to go to a site featured in the book and pay a pittance but maybe not.

BTW I'm an anti-social barsteward so these little rally type events would not be an incentive.

I think the main advantage of going to a club site is you have a good idea of the level of facilities you are going to find - so often such sites are described on this and other forums as 'up to usual club standards'. Some commercial sites, whilst sounding glorious in the ads. or websites, turn out to be under maintained, over stretched tips.

Wether you want club standards at club prices is up to the individual.

Hi Deano, It Isn't that members get discounts it's that non members have to pay more and considerably so in some cases, add to that the services you can use such as technical help, foreign travel and ferry discounts, insurance services and then not to forget the obligatory club magazine it all adds to the value of the membership.

Hi Dean

I'm not sure that your thoughts of it not being significantly cheaper are right.

Last year I had 4 weeks of holidays away for

And if you book ferry crossings through the Caravan Club you may save the cost of your subscription on just one crossing! We did! And then we saved next year's subscription by booking a second crossing!!! Both these were direct comparisons with the ferry company's own website, for exactly the same time and dates.

I like Caravan Club sites, too, and despite the stories on here, have always been able to find a site we want to go to - and usually at the weekend, without booking a year in advance.

I'm not going to rubbish the two clubs. Depending on you life style both are worth joining.

However having been a cc member for the last 10 years approx, this year i will not be joining.

Why? because for the last couple of years i havent used any of the sites.

I find the mag a bit of a joke, compared to the pc or others, in general van mags are boring full stop.

I never go abroad so never use that side of it.

The insurance quotes are always dearer.

But when you do join, a site book comes with the package.

so i would say join up and see if it suites you.

Having said that if you cash is short there are plenty of private sites to visit.

Caravan Club membership is worth it for use of their very reasonably priced CL's alone. Many of them have electric hook-ups and good facilites, or if you don't need this, some CL's just have a tap and chemical waste disposal and are even cheaper.

The C&CC allow tents on their CS's, only Caravans & Motorhomes are allowed on CL's.

Well thank you for taking the time to reply.

If I'm honest, I wouldn't be bothered about ferry crossings: I can find plenty of beautiful places in this country to stay without the need for a phrase book (no plans to visit N Wales either, at the present time).

I do see a possible benefit in the smaller sites being of use, so I might well be tempted.

Cheers
