Coachman electric water heater switch

Our 2008 Coachman has the switch for the electric water heater under the bench seat which is such a faff to turn on and off. We have already fallen foul of leaving it on with no water in the tank and ended up with it not working. Now repaired we are very careful to turn it on and off each time which is proving a pain in the arm. Has anybody ever moved it up to a more accessible position and is it much of a job?

Anything is possible, but it may be too much trouble.

My wife did the same to our heater, cost a new element.

But she is very carefull now not to leave the switch on with a empty water tank.

Have you considered, rewireing such that the spur unit feeds a 13amp socket, and the heater is then fed via a 13amp plug.

This would give a conclusive visable isolation, but you still have to remember to only plug in when the tank is full, with water.

I also left mine on but no damage however i only done it once, i would not go to all that bother suggest you put a little note somewhere that you all see until you get used to it.

our element was ok too, but the seal was damaged, it leaked a tiny amount of water, but only when the water in the heater was cold.

may be worth checking?

Hi Valerie, If you don't want to move the switch yet perhaps a 240volt indicator light/neon could be wired from the outgoing terminals of the switch to remind you it was still on. Isolate the van before you start of course.
