hi, I have a problem with cold water system in our van. When we operate the tap the pump brings up the water and with it comes a load of black, very hard crystal like matter, firstly does anyone know what this could be and secondly how do i get rid of it, as it reduces the flow of water to a mear trickle. Thanks Tony

"black, very hard crystal like matter" sounds like carbon from the inline or inlet filter. It seems like the carbon encasement has failed.

Don't use the system until it's fixed as the carbon crystals can damege taps.

Most filters, including the Carver, should be changed after 30 days use. The Whale Aquasource and Econoflow filters need to be changed annually, or after 2000 litres have been used.

Do all vans have water filters? I had a 1999 Lunar with a blue push in filter near to the water inlet but I don't think that I have one on my current van.

Hello Al,

No not all caravans have filters. Check your handbook or consult with your dealer for advice regarding your van.

Even if a filter is not specified in the handbook, they are easy to fit, and usually found near the kitchen tap.

Just a small correction to Rogers post - the whale Aquasource filter has to be changed after 1 year or 4500 litres, whichever comes first

Chris - my figure for the AquaSource was from the unit discarded at the end of '01 when I changed to using Econoflow because of the long term cost.

The Econoflow ONLY has a limit of 2000, but this is ok for most caravanners, and is cheaper if another refill has to be fitted half way through the year.
