Hi,

Took delivery of our new Bailey Pageant S7 Limousin mid December

and been out for a couple of weekends to set up and get used to towing a caravan again. Had some experience previously when we had a 1991 Bailey Scorpio Auvergne from 1991 to 1995 (then had static caravans) but still feel like a beginner again especially now towing and manoevering a (longish) twin axle. Really keen to learn and contibute where I can. Never realised just how much I missed the touring until now.

Hi RobB

Looks like you have a lovely piece of kit.Yours is a 7' 6" wide body so just take your time when narrow gaps crop up. She should tow well. As for reversing , some will tell you it is easier than a SA because the turn is not so quick.

Stay cool and you'll find it all comes back to you.

My wife went on Caravan Club towing course a while back. It was excellent and she now tows our Wyoming with confidence.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum Roy & Rita.

Great to hear you have returned to touring - it won't take long for it to all click back into place!

Ever thought about getting a motor mover fitted? Trying to manoeuvre a long and heavy van is so easy with one and we wish we had got ours years ago, instead of fairly recently. They are worth their weight in gold, especially if you have a back problem, as I now do.

Thank you for your welcome / comments.

I have a PowrTouch mover fitted (the one with the remote control) which gives me so much confidence that I will be able to manoevre the van onto the pitches ok and especially in a tight spot when I get one. I have managed to reverse the van into position on the two occasions we have been out, but it still remains one of my nervousness's until I get more experience. The other as you say is the size compared to what I have towed previously. The Scorpio Auvergne was single axle 21ft and this one is a twin and close to 26ft. I think it will be the potential back end swing at low speeds and tight turns that will needs some real care. I am sure we will cope ok. We have a Mercedes E320 CDI V6 3Ltr Auto Avantgarde Estate as my tow vehicle which has more than coped with the job so far. I think I worked out that the limousin M.T.P.L.M. gives a 80.2 tow ratio. Like you say, going to take it easy and do things carefully

Welcome Roy & Rita. We've got a Powrtouch mover as well and we never reverse onto pitches as the clutch on our car doesn't like it and starts to burn if we don't get it right first time. Anyway, it's quite a relaxing way to start the holiday watching the caravan slowly creeping back onto the pitch with pinpoint accuracy (get's the neighbours' curtains twitching too!)

Good luck and enjoy your rekindled love of touring.

Claire & Rob
