Hi,

Can anyone give me some advice?

It is our first year with a caravan and have put it in secure outsite storage. Been back today to take out battery to charge at home and opened up van to check all was ok.

Found lots of condensation (one or two small puddles as well)on the plastic flooring (carpets at home and upholstery on it's side)

Is this normal? Even had put three pots of salt on floor( as per tip in Prac Caravan) but think it is an unusual amount of condensation.

Do you leave roof vent open to allow airflow in or what?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers

I would definatley get it checked out, however I always leave all carpets down and have carpeted the bottom of all cupboards and below the bed lockers to elimenate cold spots

We had a brand new caravan a couple of years ago and kept it in well ventilated undercover storage over the winter.

Unfortunately, although we removed the upholstery and left the carpets down, condensation caused a fine layer of mould spores to appear all over the exterior of the cupboards and wall boards. - my guess is these laminated surfaces were the coldest parts.

It was easy to wipe off though and last year I wiped all surfaces with anti bacterial cleaner before storing the van. I also left the curtains open so the sun could get in and this made all the difference. We had no problems at all. There should be sufficient ventilation in the van to not to have to leave the roof vents open as driving rain can get under these.

If you have room at home, it is a good idea to remove the upholstery although not essential. Also, if you can, why not take the van away for a couple of weekends and really air it out - electric heating on and windows etc open?
