However,it doesnt appear to if im reading the manual correctly this only happens when the van is attached to the car yet on my old van the leisure battery worked the interior electrics am I reading the manual correctly? Also there is a meter on the van for reading the state of the leisure battery I had what I was told was a dud battery it showed u 13.7 I then fitted a brand new battery and its also showing u 13.7 what does this mean?

As far as i know, every british caravan will provide 12v lighting, providing you have 12v or over on your meter all your 12v lights should work.

But you must switch the power on, this on my van means the master switch adjacent the meter, must be in the on position, and then individual lighting switches will operate the lights.

It sounds to me that your master switch is on, as your meter is showing volts, so check your other switches, and don't forget the switches on the lights them selves!

Gilbert,

Do not let yourself get fooled by the 'van "voltmeter" reading in regard to assessing your battery state of charge or voltage. These meters are rarely accurate, often due to volts drop in wiring, but ok as indicators, once calibrated. Would recommend you purchase a Digital Volt Meter (DVM

You can check you battery volts by switching off you caravan charger, the voltmeter will then show your battery volts, assuming you battery fuse as mentioned earlier is intact.

I beg to differ with david re the digital meter, i have in the past fitted a professional meter, and it did the job, but that was when i had a van without one.

The meters fitted while cheap do the job required, it is not required to have volts measured to high accuracy.

For that i carry a professional multimeter.

My avondale had a switch on the charger.

The bailey we have had nothing, so i converted the 3 pin plug/socket into a 13amp socket and plug.

So now i can just switch of the charger if required.
