Connectivity

I wasn't sure where to put this topic as although it's technical, it's not caravan related. I just wanted to ask if anyone else is having trouble with wiFi connectivity lately? My signal's usually very strong here, but have been having problems recently, is it anything to do with all the storms and generally 'orrible weather? It's blowing a hoolie here in Wiltshire this evening; I've just being trying to post in a couple of other threads, and it's taken me ages, as I keep losing my signal. Drat and double drat, Mutley.
Actually I do have a connectivity question related to caravans, as well! When I decided to resurrect my caravanning lifestyle, obviously, I had to get a towbar fitted to my car. It cost more than I had anticipated because the company which did the fitting said it was more expensive to have the new 13-pin sockets and wiring systems fitted. I had asked to have the old system (7 pins, is it?) and was told that because of European legislation, they weren't allowed to fit those any more. I spoke to my neighbour about this afterwards and he just said "They saw you coming", amongst a couple of imaginitive expletives. I then had to buy an adapter so that I could plug in the old system the Carousel has. Can anyone clarify the situation for me, please?

I've had no wifi or Ethernet connection problems, but a couple of weeks ago I posted a thread about this site taking a long while to connect/load. Whereas other sites linked through instantly. But PC does seem better at present. Still blowing hard in Wilts at present.
Re your towbar I would advise going for a 13 pin connector they are so much more robust and better made than the 7 pins. I converted my van to 13 pin and the new towbar came with 13 pin. No more dodgy connections and earth problems. Its not EU legislation you were badly advised by the cowboy! But I would bite the bullet and have the van converted and do away with the 13-7 convertor leads.

Agree with Clive the 13 pin connection is very much better than the old type. In the 10 years since I converted not one problem; before that about one a year and always at inconvenient time and place

Hi guys,
Thank you both for your replies, any idea how much it would cost to convert the 'van's lead to a 13 pin plug? At the moment, with the connector attached I am always a bit worried that I'll end up dragging leads too low whilst towing, and causing damage. Last outing the reverse happened; I tried too hard to tie up the excessive amount of cable that inevitably flaps about in these circumstances, and when I had to take a sharp right-hand turn, the cable got completely yanked out of the plug! Whoops! Good old Co-op Rescue Service came and put it right for me, and a very helpful Wilts DA motorhomer lent the technician his tablet, complete with wiring diagram. Aren't caravanners ('scuse generic term) lovely people?

Bit difficult to say but a call to a service shop and / mobile will give you some idea. I wired mine all back to the consumer unit that way I know that there aren't any uneccessary joints.

Good idea from Sproket but only for short term. It adds two more connections to each wire, is exposed to the weather and easy to steal.
Difficult to estimate costs as most of it will be labour. A 13 pin socket will be less than £10. See Western Towing website among others.
Took me less than an hor to convert but I've been fairly used to wiring things in my younger days and I went to some trouble to make the joints weatherproof.
