Hi all, hope everyone had a lovely holiday if you've yet been. Just come back from 3 weeks in Salou - afraid not my cup of tea. Next year we are looking to go back to the Cote d'Azur. we have previuosly stayed at Esterel near Frejus but didn't like the fact that you had to jump in the car to get anywhere. Can anyone recommend a site preferably in cycling/walking distance of the beach which has also got a pool. We are also looking to stop for about 3 nights on the way back. Can anyone recommend an area. We are thinking about Lake Geneva. Interested in hearing all ideas. Thanks in advance, Helen.

Helen,

I can recommend L'Etoile d'Argens at St Aygulf, near Frejus, been there 5 times out of the last 6 years.

The site is 2km from the beach, 6km from a Geant hypermarket, its a great site, although the pitches can be on the small side, great pool complex on site.

The owners are on site & english is spoken.

We usually stop half way at La Grappe D'or in the village of Meursalt Burgundy.

You can check out both sites on the Eurocamp web side, I now book direct with the sites and arrange own tunnel crossing, saving a couple of 100

Hi George, thanks for that. Do you know if there's a cycle path that you can take to get to the beach. Is there a town where you can walk into at night time or is it out on it's own. I would appreciate any info that you could give me. If you are able to do this, I could do so by email. Thanks, Helen.

Helen,

During the "high" season the camp site operates a free of charge boat service down the river argens, which is at the back of the site, to the beach & back again runs about every 20 mins.

You can cycle down the road that the site is on (its a quiet road not a lot of traffic uses it except for a couple of vineyards and the other camp sites situated on it) but the road at the bottom that runs alongside the beach is the main coast road.

The site is equidistant between Frejus and St Aygulf, and both are not really within walking distance, although you could if you really wanted to!

Not a lot goes on in St Aygulf at night, but it does have some superb restuarants! We (wife Janet & I) usually drive down to Port Frejus, park & then walk along Frejus sea front up to St Raphael & back (about 4 miles total)filled end to end with cafes, bistro's & bars etc, & if you overdo the liquid refreshment, take a taxi back to the site (20e ish) & rescue the car the next day.

Market along Frejus sea front on Sundays & market in St Aygulf on Tuesdays.

If you check out the site on Eurocamp (www.eroucamp.co.uk) the photos shown are an accurate representation of the site, but unless you have children & want to "loose" them for the day in the kids club, book independantly, however the reps are all friendly and are a mine of information & always willing to help.

If you want any more info we could excahange email addresses.

BTW, where are you in the UK?, we're in West Sussex.

If you come further along to Port Grimaud there are several campsite with direct beach access. Mind you the bikes will come in handy for shopping because the N98 is very bust during the main season.

On out 7 ot 8 trips to the Cote d'Azur we found few sites that had both direct (or close) beach access and a swimming pool. As someone else has said there are sites next to Port Grimaud that are directly on the beach, Camping Les Prairies de la Mer is one. Another site we've stopped at with direct beach access is Camping Agay Soleil, which is approx 10km east of Frejus. Neither of these have pools though and they can both be very cramped and busy. We quite liked Camping De La Baie in Cavalaire though, this does have a pool and is only a 5 minute walk to the town and beaches of Cavalaire, which is a pleasant resort town towards the western end of the Cote D'Azur and whilst busy isn't quite as crazy as some other parts of the coast!
