Could this be a design fault

Hi all

I have a one year old Baily Ranger after lookng at the Technical. Damp Pageant Vendee its got me thinking which is never a good idea. But has any body else notest baileys have flat roofs and where the front and rear plastic panels come up to the roof you have mastic seal running across the van. So there no run off,s for water and water pudels on the roof.

Looking around most other vans have pitch or cauved roofs.

what do you think

A roof join on the horizontal is inviting damp in years to come but this does seem to be the modern design - another good reason to keep my 2001 Pageant which has the seams at each end, not on top.

Interesting - most (all?) German caravans have their roof seals somewhere down the wall of the caravan.

Our Eriba / Hymer Touring has the roof seal a good 15+ cms down the wall - and the only roof damp issues I know of are when the GRP roof has decayed in strong sunlight (we're talking 40 years) and has gone porous...

The newer designed Eriba / Hymer Feeling has it's roof join about 30 cms down the front wall and 15+ cms on the side-walls

But I see that the Eriba / Hymer FY for launch in 2009 has used a 10+ cm overlap for the roof seal - but has a much taller door...
