Damaged 12N Cable

Hi,

I'm a fairly capable DIY'er so is it straight forward to swop the cable. Trip out last weekend has damaged the cable by dragging it along the road for several miles, wire is now exposed.

Caravan is stored several miles from home so can't just pop to check it. Van is Bailey Pageant Bretagne Series 5.

I need to sort it before half term as already booked to go and its the last trip out before Winter.

When this happened to me several years ago, although the insulation was rubbed away on the outer sheath and a couple of inner cores, I simply slit the outer sheath so I could get access to the inner cores and wrapped insulation tape round them individually and finally the outer sheath. Of course the copper cable wasn't damaged.

If the conductors are damaged, then perhaps replacing the cable is the best bet.

This comes up quite frequently

A method I have used is to cut off the cable at the point of damage and refit the 12N/S plug at that point

Its now too short so an extension short lead is needed with 12N/S socket on one end and 12N/S plug on the other

Its worth considering the curly cables as your extensions

The join plug/socket can be fixed out of site under the A frame cover

Thanks for your replies, I certainly think the curly idea and housing the plugs out of the weather is a good shout.

To stop it happening again, just put a loop about 6" diameter in the cable before plugging into the 12N.
