Our service has picked up damp on the front left corner of our van. It is right where the awning rail meets the rail that goes across the top of the windows so my husband is going to take all the rail off and reseal. It looks like this may have been done in the past already. Inside, the very tiny piece of panel that is between the window and the edge of the van is soft to push. Nowhere else in the van is there any sponginess - my question is, if the outside problem is fixed, are we OK to just leave this foot long 4 inch wide bit of interior that is slightly soft. There is no smell of damp whatsoever, we get no mold of any type anywhere. Not sure whether to worry about it or not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No, it is a 1994 Elddis XL Shamal - a lovely cream and lime green van, but it is my little home from home. We have replaced all soft furnishings, carpets etc, and it has everything I need, so I don't want to get rid of it for something that is going to cost me far more money and I won't end up with anything better really. But from what I have been reading, I have worried myself that it is basically curtains for my little van.

Nigel Donnelly the editor of Practical Caravan magazine did some extensive repairs to a caravan and the articles were featured in the magazine at the time.
It's hard to give a definitive answer about the interior board and a lot depends on how difficult it would be to fix. If the rest of the caravan is dry it would be worth repairing the part affected by damp.

hi how old is the caravan ,the newer caravans have a new sealant on the rails .the old ones use mastic this is OK to fix but with the newer caravans because of the strength of the sealer used its could damage the rail getting them off so be careful and with care taking off the rails .and use plastic it knives and stuff not metal as these leave deep scratches when trying to get them off .if you want to get them repaired they cost about
