Hi nickmac, need more info, is it localised, is it all one side, can you see visuaul marks/mouldy areas inside the van,
Any damp repair can be carried out but you have to weigh up the costs/is the van worth it.It can cost a fortune if you pay some -one but if you are a competent DIYer then nothing is impossible

Take a look here to give you an idea of what could be involved, I did it and got great satisfaction out of it (after all the blood sweat and years)

Yes you can stop it, but you have to weigh the cost and time against the value of the van.

You need to find out where it is getting in, then tackle that problem first, removal of rails, cleaning up and resealing, or maybe replacing panels if they are the problem.
Then the inside.
Removal of all affected wallboards, removal of rotten timber and replacing, drying everything out, sourcing new wallboards and refitting everything.

It is very labour intensive and very time consuming which is where it gets expensive if done by anyone but yourself.
You need to consider if your skills can cope with what you find, as once you start you will find the extent of the problem is usually much more widespread than first appears.

People have done it and done it well, but it needs to be a labour of love.

hi Nick
I would echo what has been said and Kevs photo shoot is a good example of what can be achieved, but it does take time if your DIY skills are up to it in my opinion it is worth doing, afterall the vans not worth much as it is,
I have done a couple of these repairs in the past notably the fleetwood colchester that had bad damp in the front section the whole front had to be removed and rebuilt including the front floor section, it took 2months of every spare minute I had while the van slept under a tarpauling, when it was done it felt like a new van as I did a bit of reworking of the inside while at it. we used the van 4years after that with no more damp the last 2 of that perched on a hillside in scotland.
we sold it to a couple on site when the motorhome was finished (another complete rebuild) and the last time we were on the same site 5 years ago the fleetwood was still there but on a different pitch, thats a full 12years since the repair was done
and a testiment to how effective a good repair can be.
