I saw it and was surprised at the level of incompetence displayed by the guy who was towing the Bailey
smiley-frown.gif

I couldn't understand why he felt that he needed to reverse into the camp site entrance anyway unless it was a put up job for the programme makers. If this guy was typical of the driving and towing standards of caravanners then the sooner driving tests for all caravanners regardless of how long a licence has been held for is introduced the better.
As usual the programme makers still managed to put the boot in to us by suggesting that we hold up and annoy other road users, which might be true of the rubbish driver in the programme, but not for those of us who merely observe and obey the legal speed limits.

....
If that was truly the case then all that the programme managed to acheive was the reinforcement of the stereotypically negative image of touring caravanners that is actively fostered by the media, and the so-called 'celebrity' caravan owner ought to be thoroughly ashamed of himself for helping them to do this.

I noticed that Roland Rivron with his Bailey customised one off T/A Ranger Rivron caravan didn't appear to have a motor mover fitted. If he really had an issue with reversing it you'd think he could afford a mover

Some of the things shown in the show are not unusual and a lot of divers could do with help, refresher courses and license renewal. Mention of encouragement from government for safer driving on this forum just got ridicule. Just the thought that the UK could have license renewal and a few quid for a photo card license that makes good security sense also gets a hammering.
Roland's skit just showed up a few questionable points that many towing drivers share, if it persuades a few more people to get a help it can't be a bad thing.
An opportunity for the PC editor to line up a feature and Q&A session with Mr and Mrs Rivron and family ? ?

hi guys,
a couple of comments, I think we are reading a little too much into this, as it is just a TV program and meant for entertainment it should be seen as such and no relevence placed upon it, WHY? well if you looked at it in retrospect nothing adds up,
Roland says in the opening shots that he is a part time caravanner so are most of us, however he takes the van once a year down to the south of france for a month, presumidly he negotiates the roads to the ferry gets on and off it and then drives all through France on the wrong side of the road (to us) every year yet cannot negotiate a simple roundabout or exit a petrol station without mounting the pumps he admits to to being totally enept at reversing yet decides to reverse all the way up a site entrance road and into the site, which despite being in the middle of the summer is totally deserted, also his van is not new but in pristene condition anyone who was so bad would not have such luck it would be a bit dented and scratched after contact with so many hedgerows. , he speaks of the van pushing the car down hill like it does't have any brakes of it's own, and shows his ignorance of road craft by saying he slows down and panics yet passes a HGV on a duel carragway with complete confidence,
he comes across as a bit of a clown, but then he would because that is his stage persona he is the clown in the class that gets things wrong however he is a very cleaver guy, whether his antics reinforce the stereotyping of the average caravanner is not so clear cut because in my view any program that highlights the difficulties and practicalities of towing a van cannot be all bad,
.besides showing how poor some are makes the rest of us look quite good

Looks like a total reinforcement of my views on TV then!!

The program shows what we all might face from other drivers on the road. One 70 year old very set in his way driver who scared his partner and wouldn't listen to her. There are other's out there with the same kind of problems the show covered.
If your view of TV is dim Martin24 that's a shame, some programs that deal with real people can do some good. There is also pretty amazing TV at the moment, David Attenbourough's current Africa series for one and over the past week there has been some absolute stunning wildlife filming in other programs.

The bad drivers prog has it's place despite the old gag about caravanner's delaying other road users.

I don't find news at ten, politics shows or the weather updates "entertaining". Like this forum, some stuff is informative, interesting or can just widen your knowledge
