How on earth did this site get a silver award?

No recycling bins for tin, bottle, plastics or paper. Just a sweeping statement that the waste company does the recycling.

No collection of rain water run off to use to water plants, let alone use it for the washdown pump for the garden equipment.

No real effort to set aside verges to encourage wildlife.

No plating program of trees to encourage nesting.

No care of the riverbank to encourage vowls, otters etc. Despite being set in a very beautiful black & white village with a highly regarded preservation pedigree.

Plenty of fresh plating of conifer trees.

So my question is how on earth did they get a silver award????

Steve.

The man himself is a totally waste of space and comes across as rather arrogrant. I agree with what you say as near us is a site with a David howisyour father award and by no stretch of the imagination is it environmental friendly except that they charge extra for nothing extra.

I have never understood why the Camping and Caravanning Club ever got involved with David Bellamy.

How can anyone take him seriously? Caravanners i know just treat him as a joke.

We drove in and straight out of a David Bellamy award site in Norfolk. There were quite a few touring caravans which obviously remained on their pitch year round and while one might consider green algae covered caravans blended well into the woodland setting, they just gave a very unkempt look to the site. They had also collected a plethora of additional objects around their caravans which made the whole site look like a traveller's encampment. We didn't stay long enough to discover the level of wildlife or recycling.

I started this thread because I was quite astounded at how little the site has done towards being a "green" environment.

I am very much in favor of recycling and trying to ensure the countryside is maintained for the future.

I always regarded Mr Bellamy as a very savvy person, but it seems the spirit of the original purpose of encouraging caravan sites to earn their award by doing the gorundwork has been lost.

In the case of the site I've seen, I did wonder how much (
