We are not long back from a 4 month trip that included Denmark. We were there for a few days in 1975 and 1999, but this time spent about 3 weeks going around quite a bit of the country. We went Hull/Rotterdam (we are in Central Scotland), booked via Caravan Club, about £330 excluding meals, 2 adults, car and 8metre caravan. There is also a crossing from Newcastle to Amsterdam, and Harwich to Esbjerg in Denmark.
We drove north near the coast in Holland, then over towards Hamburg and north to the Danish Border where we stopped just.on the German side. Generally we spent 3-5 nights at each site and went clockwise round, right up to the tip, and back to Aalborg before taking the ferry to Kalundborg and driving to Copenhagen. It was very wet there, so we quickly left and went over to Sweden where the weather was a little better.
The rest of our trip took us across Sweden with several stops and eventually to Stockholm. Then north and into Norway at about Arctic Circle level, where we visited family for 7-8 weeks. Coming back we came south to Mo i Rana, then back into Sweden and eventually south to Uddevalla and Malmo. And so back to Copenhagen, which we were apparently fated NOT to see this time as the site was closed when we arrived in the middle of the day and we decided not to hang about till it opened again! We have been there before, it is worth a visit!
Instead we headed to Odense where we had not been before, nice place. Good HC Andersen museum. And so back to the mainland and south to Amsterdam where we spent a few days.
Most sites were pretty good, we used ACSI and Camping Cheques wherever possible, otherwise it was about £20-£25 per night. Electricity is very expensive and often metred, especially if you are using ACSI or CC. Food is more expensive than here, but not excessively so. Sweden is pretty much on a par with UK for food, Denmark a bit more, and Norway is eye-wateringly expensive, especially as the £ is weak now.
For scenery it has to be Norway, for ease of living and prices choose Sweden, but Denmark is pretty, and as said above, there are plenty of interesting places to visit. Getting around is easy, it's compact and fairly flat. The weather is pleasant, the people are friendly, english is widely spoken. Certainly worth a visit.
