hello,

did anyone go to the western isles last year...we were supposed to be going but unfortunately the credit crunch bit quite hard.(plasterer) and the funds were used elsewhere...we should have been going over to lewis and harris, anyone got any information, if i remember correctly some were going, just wondered how you got on, as hopefully, fingers crossed we will make an attempt this year, thankyou, ED (with very cold hands having just removed a foot of snow from the top of the discovery)

Hi Ed

We had nearly 7 weeks of the Western Isles last year.

It was the worst holiday we have ever had.

We had virtual continual rain and storms.

Far too bad to walk much and we were just fed up being wet and muddy.

The best site we stayed at by far was North Ledaig CC affiliated near Oban, after that it just went downhill.

The sites on Mull , Skye and Isle of Lewis were pretty basic. I suspect had we been blessed with good weather they may have looked prettier??

Lewis makes junkyard wars seem a paradise. Apparently it costs too much money to recycle old vehicles. Consequently most gardens have rusting hulks varying from cars to coaches. The scenery is not that good.

See my posts on UK Campsite. I have tried to be fair and constructive but believe me we shall NOT be returning.

The only good thing was the ship back to Ulapool.

I'm sticking to the Highlands and Sutherland.

I believe Cal Mac will be offering special Island Hopper tickets which saved us half the normal cost. Should mention the site at Resipole by Loch Sunart was excellent but spoilt by the appalling weather.

Cheers

thankyou dustydog

might just stick with the isle of skye then,

ive heard nice things about the islands, we have a friend who lives on south uist, and raves about the place, but the discription you give of the others is similar to one i saw somewhere else...dont want to risk a boring holiday, especially when money will be a bit tight....

thankyou

ED
