Hi,

Saying thanks before clicking that link. My next door neighbour was at Radfan. Harry Tucker, RCofT, not sure when, but I'll ask. He has the South Arabia clasp to his GSM, keeps yearning for the Radfan clasp, but is told that you don't get both. Annoys him, because Radfan counted as active service. Do they still call it a GSM? I have a GSM for Arabian Peninsular (RAF Sharjah) and another GSM for Malay Peninsular (RAAF Butterworth), but ribbon is different patern, tho same colours. Possibly post-62 is called a Campaign Medal. ????

Have you got your UK Veteran's lapel badge?

Whatever, they are all "baggage labels" to say which NAAFI queue you stood.

Hi,

Having logged onto that site, I find its an RAF site. So I clicked on the Sharjah link.....

I was there when that Hunter landed without a nose-wheel. I was also there when an armourer forgot to dis-arm the cannon after a sortie, and an electrician pressed the tit. I think the Hunter's cannon fired 2000 rounds per minute, so probably about 100 shells were fired LOW over Sharjah village. Or don't we talk about that?

It was not uncommon for a Hunter to land with rifle bullet holes.

The jet would fly low through a valley, and the rebs would fire DOWN at it. Anybody want to tell us what a goolie chit is?

Hi, my Lord,

Hmmm! I understood that the chit offered a reward for the safe return of the pilot, with the alternative being just the return of his head, lips stitched together to prevent other bits falling out ..... hence the name of this chitty.
