We have a Bailey Olympus 534 which we have had for a year now and there have been numerous and varied problems including the failure of major components such as the electric toilet flush and the fridge meaning we had to flush the wc with a pot of water and keep our milk cool in a bucket of cold water when in the Netherlands recently. The 'van is currently back at the dealers awaiting the installation of a new fridge. On the way home some of the cupboard doors opened causing the contents to spill out. Fortunately no damage was done to the work surface or the cooker glass lid although we did lose some crockery. Bailey have told the dealer and me that the clip type hinges, that they have now dumped from new ranges are prone to movement when there is a change of temperature and apart from taking the 'van back to the dealer to adjust these clips when the cupboard doors no longer close (or open) after a change of temperature has occured no more can be done. Ridiculous!!

Hi Diesel Dicky
Sorry to hear of all your problems.
There's two aspects here.
1. The failure of outside third party parts eg fridge , toilet etc.
By now you would think these T P manufacturers would be making a bullet proof piece of kit for the caravan industry. I can only hope that the likes of the major caravan manufacturers continue to "bash" these TPs on their product quality. Such failures only upset customers and cost everyone more hard money getting the issues resolved.

2. Cupboard doors that don't stay closed because of temperature change is farsical.
However as others on here will you, your contract for purchase was with your dealer and it is the dealer who must offer you a permanenet remedy.
Under the Sale of Goods Act the product sold / supplied must be of merchantable quality and is expected to perform satisfactorily for a number of years. Your "clip type hinges " clearly have an inherent defect which imo must be remedied now by the dealer without further fobbing you off. If they have to get modified hinges from Bailey that is their problem not yours .
Do not accept second best.

Thanks for this. It was the dealer who contacted Bailey initially looking for a long term and sustainable solution to the problem and the "nothing can be done other than adjustment" solution was the Bailey steer to the dealer who in turn forwarded this info on to me. Unimpressed with this solution I contacted Bailey myself to be told the same thing before being hung up on from the helpline. Bailey claim that no modification is possible as the doors do not have any strengthning where an exterior "traditional" type grab handle would be fitted. I did suggest that all the doors were replaced with suitable handles and catches, similiar to the new Pegasus 2 and I beleive Olympus 2 range but Bailey claim this could cause issues with colour match size etc. I do appreciate that it is Bailey's responsibilty ultimately to come up with a solution but if they refuse where do I go?

Have have fitted PUSH BUTTON catches to all the cupboards in my Bailey Ranger GT60.These are used only when travelling, but are well worth the effort - a little tricky to fit, but again well worth it.
The only problem with the roof lockers, is the sharp corners which attack my foreheand at any given chance !!!!

With Care! I copied the measurements from the existing catch and then transposed these for the new ones. I also made a cardboard template from the face of the catch, and then with careful measuring ( measure twice - cut once !!!!) marked where to fit. Be careful matching the actual catch to marry up with the catch plate. The doors now stay shut when travelling with no detrement to the doors themselves.
I purchased the catches (below) from O'Leary On-line shop.
Good luck. Double Pushlock Set Matt Platinum Order no.: DPPLAT Price: £ 5.99

Can I suggest that you never carry anything in your top cupboards because if something falls out and smashes a worktop it would be a very expensive repair that you would have to pay? Secondly it will also affect the way the caravan handles when it is towed as the caravan will be "top" heavy in a sense.
In the meantime do as DD has suggested and invoke SOGA to your advantage however whatever you say to them verbally also send a registered letter by post as that is alwasy prrof that they were informed about the repairs required! It also lets them know that you mean business as you now have a paper trail for any court should it get that far.

We never carry anything other than some light clothing, small boxes of cereal etc in the cupboards apart from the cupboard which houses the crockery (melamine) and some mugs so I feel the stability should not be compromised at all. Thanks for the suggestions that would cover the legal route, which I hope it does not come to. The dealer has actually been very helpful trying to solve all our problems but it would appear that if Bailey say no then ultimately the answer will be no. I have actually written to the MD of Bailey today expressing my disatisfaction with the product and asking for some answers as the helpline has not replied to 2 emails.

Hello Dicky,

I hope your difficulties are resolved without having to go down the SoGA route. But your statement:-

" it would appear that if Bailey say no then ultimately the answer will be no"

This is not necesarily correct.

Your rights under SoGA are agaisnt the seller not the manufacture, so regardless of what the manufacture may say, if there is a case to be answered the seller is the one who has to resolve it. They cannot simply refer to the manufactures opinion, the manufacture has no part in your contract with the seller to buy the caravan. If arbitration is required to resolve the issue, then the manufacture is not best placed to provide an unbiased opinin.
