Hi all
I printed off a damp repair a while ago. mainly because the labour only for removing and replacing the 2 rails was £400. minus any parts.
We took off the mirror in our bathroom and yes the boarding was wet.
Now we can follow instructions but this looks a complicated and could take a long time.. My question is how long do you think it would take and does anyone know how much the costs might run to..also where would we get new panels and wood from? I know its difficult with not see the van but the damp is all in the end bathroom area.. if that helps
thanks

Hello Smiley,

you are correct that it is virtually impossible to give you accurate answers - There are several problem with damp issues, teh first is the signs often don't give a true indication of where its started. and the second is that when you see the signs, it means its been there working away for some time before it becomes visible. This often means that when you discover it, it has affected much more than you might imagine, and so the job becomes far more extensive than at first seems apparent.

One of my relatives had a caravan and he discovered signs of damp in the front top corner. he decided to try to fix it. He stripped it back and found that the front third of the caravan was affected. what was what he thought to be a couple of week ends turned into three months.

Now not every case will be that bad, but the point is until its been fully investigated and exposed you just don't know.

I wish you luck but from having read a number of previous threads on the subject my relatives experience is not uncommon.

Our local caravan dealership keep panels of a variety of board types for sale. I think you just match to the colour nearest to your exisiting board colour. You can buy the wood for the frames from any timber merchant.

Hi Marie, hope you are up for a challenge
smiley-smile.gif

As said depends on the extent of the water ingress as to how long it could take I did a repair on my previous van and think it took nearly 3 weeks evenings and weekends, took 22 hours just to clean the mess off the side of the van and clean the awning rail.
Now just a thought as it is in the bathroom area I would start inside as it's possible if you used your shower regulary it could have started there. When you remove the wallboard and insulation you will be able to see if the timber is rotton if this is the case then it will have to be replaced to provide a new fixing for the screws of the awning rail and to strengthen the van.
Take a look here for an idea of what could be ahead but you may have caught yours earlier hopefully
Also I got all the wallboard, insulation and trimmings from Magnum Motor Homes brilliant service and most helpful, they will also if you ask them too, send sample wall board to get a near perfect match.
Any more questions please ask
Kev
