Lots of fungi around this time of the year in wooded areas and they have been prevelant on the last three sites we've been on, Englethwaite Hall, Low Moor and Chatsworth. I've been wary of our dogs eating them because anything goes into their mouths if we allow it but they are never off the lead so this time of the year we watch out for fungi as well as rabbit and sheep dumps

The site I saw the most fungi of different species was Black Knowl in October 2005.

Thanks Bigfoot, for your advise, We drove through Clumber park on the wayback from a visit to Sherwood Forest in June so glad we did not stop.Stayed once at Clumber Park we had a nasty experience with our Kerry, out walking early one morning on the first full day, she picked up a rabbit scent followed it , suddenly turn right angles down another path, suddenly she gave off a horrendious scream, ran as fast as my legs would carry me , found her limping towards me blood coming out of mouth, opened her mouth to discover the blood was coming from her tongue, tooth marks indicated this, carried her back to the van ,managed to get a emergency appointment with the local vet, Gave her a very good examination her internal organs were okay, checked her eyes okay, lifted her tried to make her walk wheel barrow to check front legs, okay had a injection to ease the pain, advised to keep her on a lead for a few days and to return if she was not responding .
Went back to site cancelled my 13 days headed back home for our vet to give her some more painkillers, have not been back their since, Took her about six weeks to recover ,The cause of her injury, we reckon caused by a sudden collision with one of the many tree stumps that are about 6 "to 12"above ground, She always follows a scent with her nose close to the ground so would have not seen the stump.

I remember posting a warning about dogs falling ill after being in notts woodland about this time last year. It is believed to be something naturally occurring and seasonal. Keep your mutt on a lead; I believe that last year at least one dog died.
