We have a Dorema porch awning with alloy frame. The latter is IMHO unsatisfactory for 3 reasons

-the 'quick' system is not intuitive to assemble, as the frame sections are not symmetrical - but this may be just for the porch versions.

-as the alloy loses its newness, its gets a bit'gritty' where you have to slide the joints to tension the awning. This makes it hard work

-the plastic clamps are not fixed to one pole. This means they sometimes come off with wrong bit when you take them apart, or its not postioned correctly when you tighten it up.

Our full awning by contrast, although another make, has the fibre glass type frame, and is very easy to live with. Personally I would avoid the alloy frame.

we had to mark each pole corner with colored tape and have thought of taping the clamps to right pole.We got 28mm pipe insulation and cut it to the right length so we start off with the frame set about right for the porch awning.

I got some 28mm pipe insulation from BES and after I fixed the awning up cut it to length less about an inch for length and width. Then when I make the frame up I set the size to the pipe insulation and pop it on the back just use the side piece to set the size. When you a moving it under the awning it stops it marking the caravan side and then lift up the legs. Then finally tension the poles We found it was easy tojust touch the caravan side with dents left.Sorry its long winded cant post pics on here

Yes, I guessed you must be using it as a measure, but I like the idea of protecting the van from frame knocks.

Pipe insulation is useful stuff-I have an unsplit length on the Aquaroll handle, with tie wraps to hold it in place at the ends.
