Well done Mr P!

I expect that you will ruffle a few feathers now that you are officially an expert :0)

Well done sir - I had every faith in you - therefore if it not the Bently then it must be the Skoda Felicia or Fiat 600. Mind you I did see in the press recently that the Trabant is being updated to conform with currant European legislation - the ideal car for a driving school - if you bump it all you will need is papar machet to mend the holes/dents.

Thanks one and all .I just now have to pass the Part 3 test and away I go!

Seems my luck has changed all I need now is to find Kenco Decaf coffee and we will all be happy.

Question is Mr P: do you think you'll be able to pass the test again when you're 70...!

..."Drivers to face new test at 70 to stay on road - Times"...

Come to think of it, I wonder how many of us think we could (or should)...???

Its a good question I passed my driving tests on both car and motorbike 40 years ago, today the tests are much stricter and the tests I have had to take so far in the qualification process to become a driving instructor are very strict, for example the test I took yesterday is over an hour long(L test is sbout half of this) and I am only allowed 6 minor errors. Before I took the test I ahd 20 hours training and many more practicing how to drive properly again and the 'modern' way.It is not easy and I would tend to agree that most drivers would fail their test if they took it again without refresher training. To begin with you have the theory test and hazard perception in these I got 98 out of 100 for theory(pass is 85) and 70 out of 75 for hazard perception (pass 57)and yesterday I had only one minor error.

Hi Plotter well done. Next time your are at B.T.C. Smethwick ask if you can go out on an E.F.A.D. (extreemly fast and dangerous) course on blues & two,s. Should be fun.

I appreciate the type of test that you took is far more advanced than the basic one - most of us probably wouldn't have a chance of passing that one now, let alone when we're really wrinkly...so well done.

What troubles me is that road conditions now are totally different to those that existed when I took my test 40 years ago, and I would imagine that both the teaching and the testing of drivers is very different to reflect this. So many of us could come a cropper!

It's one thing being totally familiar with the controls of a car - quite another to drive it safely...

Am I alone in confessing that the speed that everything happens on today's crowded roads (particularly at complex motorway junctions) can be bewildering and needs very careful concentration (I'm even pleased to have the other half in the passenger seat these days, helping with sign/lane directions!!).

In the same vein, I can't imagine how young drivers can be expected to be considered competent on motorways when they never have experience of them before taking the test.

I would agree with all you say, although a bit worried about the comment 'when you are really wrinkly' what are you trying to say )

Things are certainly very different from 40 years ago on the roads and the way that you are expected to drive such as block changes and not changing down as you approach a junction etc.

As regards having your good lady sitting alongside spare a thought for me over the last few weeks when she has been out with me in the BSM car she has had access to the dual controls!
