Hi.
Take a look at Brighouse bay near Kircudbright, nice coastal site with play area for kids and a entertainment for the mums and dads. Or go to Garlieston and the site there is Caravan club and is right on the pier so to speak. Lovely quiet site and pub just 200yds from site and does meals. Cant remember if there is a play area tho.
hi topshelf
there are quite a few sites around the area probably the most well known is brandedleys @ nine mile bar just outside dumfries it can be a bit expensive but should be ok in may it has everry thing you describe being a big commercial site there is a smallish one in the village of new abbey right in the heart of the village so all the amenities are there can't remember the name of it at the moment but will look in the old scotland folder and try to find a few more if you like.
Have you looked at Hoddom Castle? Stayed there two years ago. The week was ruined by non stop rain but you can't book the weather. The site is good and we got a spot opposite the play area which was like a mudbath but it didn't stop all the kids playing in it. It has a pub/restaurant. a small shop and the remains of a large castle ( which you cannot enter but it looks great)as well as a golf course. You can walk around the outskirts of the park in the local woods. On the downside the chemical waste point is a distance from the touring park behind a barn type building. The showers if i remember correctly were fine and I have seen worse. There is also a small mountain bike trail in the woods. Have a look at it on ukcampsites.co.uk.

Hi
The CC campsite at Garliestan doe not have childrens play area and in the notes on site say that it may not be suitable for children. That said if your children are interested in nature you will find the site and area very good. That said there is a small play site in the village, in erasy walking distance from the site. Beware that the site can flood at very high tides.
One of my favourite sites is Kippford. Lovely site, play area, small shop. Short walk to Village with two good pubs, lots of boats, and really nice coastal walks. Short drive to dalbeattie, castle douglas, kirkcudbright; very pleasant towns. Lots of forest walks etc nearby, and this is excellent area for real cycling in woods, plus extreme mountain bikes. Lots of inexpensive days out, with free fresh air!
